No ED in stores for Christmas gift shopping ..

Gave up on buying ED as a gift from the online store, then I tried hunting down a boxed version in shops with no success.

So .. Result being I'll have to buy the game for my dad when we open gifts tonight .. It's silly ..

Got him a joystick and all ..

Love the game Frontier but not having it available at retailers or easily giftable ( CD keys ) at Christmas is just bonkers..

Whilst I personally never expected to see retail copies for what is effectively an online downloadable game, you can buy a gift card with a customised message from the store.
You just have to log into the store yourself first from https://store.elitedangerous.com, then click "My Account" and then you can choose "Gift Card" from there, fill in the details and off you go!

arf .. missed that option .. But hey we bought it together last night so he did get the game :)

Frankly I haven't bought a boxed version of any game in over ten years... Since the game depends on an Internet connection, it's expected to be purchased online. As with most games.

Takes me 30 minutes to go to a shop to buy a game. Takes me 5 hours to download E: D. Takes me 40 hours to download Assassin's Creed.

So... Physical Store is still an option, even for 100% online games :) That's great :)

You can redeem a gift card from there but I don't think you can buy them..
I was looking for this option and couldn't find it. I thought instead of convincing a friend to buy, I would just buy it for them..

My Account > Gift Card
Gives an option to search existing items with filters, or an option to "Add a gift card" which is actually "Redeem a gift card"

Guess I will have to setup an alternate account and give them the details, luckily it seems that the email etc can be changed easily
