Powerplay No Exploration assignment progress for selling Exploration data; what am I doing wrong?

I am genuinely stuck trying to think why the following is not working:

• I am pledged with Lavigny-Duval.
• I am docked at Ockels Terminal in the Ngugira system controlled by Lavigny-Duval (at Fortified; for this purpose, a Reinforcement system).
• I have an assignment Sell exploration data at Reinforcement systems.
• I am selling small amounts of data to be sure it shows progress and that my larger data payload will count, but I get none.

The cautious approach follows a larger Exploration data sale at the Crom system, Exploited by Lavigny-Duval and thus also Reinforcement, to no effect for the assignment. Have I missed something, or is this another¹ type of assignment which should be ignored?

1. Albeit the first I have found due to being broken; those on my present list are due to being less efficient than normal bounty-hunting, such as scanning megaships.

I had one of these and was able to complete it.

I heard that the merit payout for exploration requires a pretty sizeable minimum value amount (don't remember how much). Given that, I assumed this assignment would require at least that minimum amount to count since you get no merits for anything less than the minimum value.

Being too lazy to look up the minimum value, I just looked up a very expensive system on the road-to-riches that I hadn't scanned yet. I went and scanned that system, which earned about 1.2m data, and used that to complete an assignment which only required about as much as yours does (was in 400k range).

I don't know if anything I did was required, but I'm just telling you what I did in case it helps.

This is the catch. From research on the Exploration forum, exploration data gives merits on a per-body basis, and there's a very high minimum [1].

You'd probably need to sell a mapped ELW, WW, or AW to get it to trigger.


[1] Oddly, I think the minimum might be higher than the task requirement there, which seems not to have been updated for the changes in exploration balance immediately after the release.

Given that around 900000 credits for the Earth-like planet Trappist-1 4 was not enough for my first attempt in Crom, I think Efficiency bonus and First discovery may need adding to that stipulation! That seems a bit unlike the way that Escape pods work for an assignment despite giving no Merits, but indeed the simple guess of a million-credit minimum per planet would explain what I saw.

I had data ready worth 1.9 million from another system, although possibly not from one planet. Either way that assignment has changed now after Titan week; I think I will see later whether the 1.9 million is enough should that assignment appear again, but not engage with it more than that.

Curious - I've certainly managed to get merits for planets without first discovery in the 500k+ range. (I don't think efficiency bonus is big enough to make much difference)

I've not had any assignments of that type yet - maybe I'll get one this week to try out.

Yesterday (or Tuesday? One loses track in the cockpit) I sold an 800k system, no merits, a 1.5k system, good merits. I got a First bonus for the latter, even though it was not a First, so in the end it was more like 2k in credits. (I also made a very small Faction quite a lot bigger along the way by choosing which station to flog them all in... thinking about PP and BGS at once is a headache)

I've also noticed a new issue with very low value systems (not related to PP 2.0 logic as such, but the problem seems to have appeared in that same update for Ascendancy) - sometimes I can't sell a system under 10k at all, it's greyed out, despite being well over 20ly away.

Same weekly with Torval. I know next to nothing about Exploration aside from "get close to planet and sell data at a station". But I sold the to Universal Cartographics and didn't get any credit. Does the Exploration data have to be from outside the Bubble?

There's an unfortunate thing here where the exploration data request in the mission is far smaller than the smallest amount of exploration data you can get merits for. It really should assign it in "valuable mapped bodies" rather than "credits" to give you a hint.

You essentially only get merits for mapping (not just scanning - you need to fit and use the Detailed Surface Scanner to fire mapping probes)
- Earth-like Worlds
- Terraformable Water Worlds or High Metal Content Worlds
- Ammonia Worlds
which are generally worth at least 500k credits each, so a single one will be more than enough to complete the assignment.

Planets in inhabited systems work fine - Agricultural and Tourism systems are a good bet for some of those planet types.

I know next to nothing about Exploration aside from "get close to planet and sell data at a station".

As an aside, you might want to look up your Full Spectrum Scanner keybinds and functionality, as this lets you scan planets without needing to get close to them.

Gotcha. I traveled to Trappist-1 and mapped the Earth-like World there. Turned in the Exploration Data at a Reinforcement System and got credit for the assignment. Thanks!

I have just gotten this mission on this weeks power play.

It is asking to sell data in Groombridge 1618.

I had around 490k worth of data when I got the mission and sold about 400k+ (wanted to hold on to the lower amounts and sell elsewhere).
Went and did some exploring approx 100Ly away came back and sold the data expecting to get mission complete but no!
Checked and it had 0/439,605!

I nearly lost my AspX as got scanned by hostile security and barely got away under fire (no weapons in that load out)

Was just away to post a query but saw this thread. I will go and have a look at Trappist.
