Ships No Fleet Carrier Administration in systems which are supposed to have it

Hi,

I've just bought my Fleet Carrier this evening from Kuo Terminal. I've done my initial selection of services and now I want to start stocking stuff for Outfitting so I went back to the Kuo Terminal and into Contacts but there's no option for FC Admin. After nosing around to see if it was in a different screen, I gave up and jumped my FC to Nuenets and went to Shriver Hub. Same problem again, if there's an option for FC Admin, I can't find it but my Gal Map says FC Admin is available.

Any thoughts as to what am I missing? I tried searching through the threads and people were asking, on the beta, how to find FC Admin systems but I didn't get any search hits for my problem which tells me I must be doing something wrong.

You add FC services from within your FC, after funding it with enough credits, but the FC also has to be in a FC admin System at the time you do this. You can only buy the FC through the contacts at the selling stations, nothing else.

So, Buy FC , fly yo FC , go into FC admin in buying system, or any FC admin system, add / remove services. Once yo jump out of a FC admin system , you can no longer add or remove any FC services.

Thanks, that explains it nicely.

BTW do I have to have the Shipyard and Outfitting modules to buy stock for them? According to the FC Management screen that, as the owner, I can use both of those without actually buying the services so I haven't bought them. But... I can't buy stock for them either. Do I have to buy the Shipyard and Outfitting services in order to buy stock? If so then I don't see the point of the owner having use of them prior to purchase since I can't actually do anything with them.

for FC owners outfitting and Shipyard are a big storage cupboard. you can "transfer" all your ships and spare modules there, and any new ships or modules you buy can also be stored.

#for instance, i have a spare A7 Guardian FSD stored in mine. If you want to sell ships and modules to anyone, including yourself, you have to install the shipyard and outfitting modules, but this then allows "others" to store their ships and stuff on your FC too, depending on how you have your security settings set "ALL/Squadron Only/Firends Only, Friends and Squadron only, of noone, just you only.

MarkyH explained it well. Some background as to why its this way: in beta1 the carrier didn't have shipyard or outfitting at all unless one purchased it. In beta2 they separated functionality where the carriers come with basic shipyard/outfitting just like you find in any large NPC station. If you want to sell ship/module stock, you have to purchase the shipyard/outfitting upgrade. This upgrade also allows other players to store their ships and modules.

Not sure about this, but I think you are limited to storing 10 (?) of your own ships unless you have Shipyard installed. With Shipyard it is definitely 40 ships. But when I installed the Shipyard it stayed at showing 10 ships until I stored the first ship, then it jumped to 40, so I'm not sure if it jumps to 40 like that even without Shipyard installed.

Could anyone confirm that, either way?

As far as modules, you are still faced with the 120 galaxy limit. You can buy anything that you have in stock at Outfitting of course, but Outfitting won't keep anything that you don't have the "Stock Pack" for, so you can't really use it for extra storage, apart from a very few items - and it will strip any engineering from even those items. If you want to beat the 120 limit you will need to have extra ships that you can use to store spare items on/in.

I have no Shipyard module and I'm holding 18 ships but only because that's all the ships I have.

I can't confirm it but I don't think there's a 10 ship limit on any shipyard.

I asked you once before but didn't get an answer :( Maybe I missed it. That's almost the point.
Can I sell my modules ? For example:
1. My jumping guard booster.
2. My prismatic shield.
3. My beam laser with engineering improvements.

If there's Outfitting installed you can sell your modules for cash. You can't sell them to other players.

Hey SergMx, would it be useful to you to buy the Outfitting module and have a play? You can always sell it if it doesn't work in the way you want. Ok, you'll lose some cash if you remove it but you'll get the info you want and, by experimenting with it, you might find out some other behaviours which are helpful as I have just by having a go with some of the features. I didn't bother with the Outfitting module personally because I just want a flying warehouse for now. Later I'll get the Outfitting and the Shipyard just to have a play but I'll sell them again if they turn out not to be useful to me.

I'm sorry I didn't quite understand you. I asked here in the hope that someone had already done it and could share information with me.
For me, Elite has always been a game where you control spacecrafts in the universe, not on a warehouse menu.

Fleet carriers may well not be for you then. A large part of it is managing your inventory.
I think the management of inventory at FC will not be very convenient unlike the same Shinarta. There are only 150 places in the warehouse, so all the modules and equipment for mining can not fit in 150, they are easier to sell and if necessary to buy.
I will use my FC as a base for my ships and as a warehouse for the LTD.
