Hello Stewart,
Thank you for contacting Oculus Support!
It's great to hear that you are passionate about our product!
Please note, the Crescent Bay prototype was just that, a prototype, and not a developer kit. As such, we will not be making the Crescent Bay prototype available for sale.
Also note, we will not be releasing future Developer Kits.
If you would like to place an order for an Oculus Rift Development Kit 2, you can do so by visiting:

Why sad?

This just means that the consumer version is around the corner! Yay! :)

this has always been the way of it........... CB was never on the cards to come out, neither was a DK3 of any description...... As to whether this means anything for CV1s imminent release, personally I do not think so but I would love to be wrong

Maybe...and because I've just ordered DK2... :-/ (just couldn't wait!)

Ok, I guess that stings a bit, but it's been pretty clear for a while that the commercial release will be reasonably soon so... ;)

I got money ready to launch in their direction anyway! :D

I don't know about "imminent", but I expect to see it this year at least.

From what I've read, the Crescent Bay is built using 3D printing techniques which is a slow and costly process, that's why they won't sell it. But knowing there won't be any more dev kits is good news to me, it means that the final, easy to use out of the box, consumer-quality product is soon to be announced! :) Since I got my DK2 it made the wait much easier, but I'm still very excited about the consumer version.

Don't be sad about getting a DK2. I found it needed a lot of ajusting to work at its best - but when set up right it's very impressive. Also, it's going to take some serious horsepower to run 1440 (containing two renders) at 90hz. I think we may find even today's high-end PCs will struggle. Also, going on my experience with the DK2, you'd need two x 1440p to play without easily noticing the pixelation. What type of PC would that need?
