No Gal Map?

Is there no Gal map like Frontier had whereby you can make an informed choice about which bit of a system to go to for trade?

I've made 2 trade jumps and lost out both times (ship destroyed) because apart from choosing the system to fly to there's no other info (apart from what Govt - not even corp state, democracy etc. Only Anachy shows up as definitive.) that I can see until you actually jump there - then make a choice - try to fly to the right planet and .... interdicted, then death. 3 cobras interdicted, then 1.

This needs to change. In reality in year 3300 this would not happen; Pilots would know the destination down to the station before launch. The time it takes to choose is the time you are vulnerable to attack.

Plus you would not jump into a system with say only 1 spaceport unless you knew you would get a good deal there - jumping essentially blind into a system with no knowledge of how many trade ports there are is not good business sense. (unless there is a module to install to increase this info?)

I'm an absolute die hard Elite fan and one of the few badgeholders (my avatar) yet I find this pretty gamebreaking.

With just a few credits remaining to my name and no upgrades - this has been an extremely frustrating morning.

-------------

I do like the fact that you jump to near the sun then fly manually to the planet of choice, but 1 death (no trade cargo) was caused by a frustrating time trying to circumnavigate the suns mass lock field to get to the other side, and an interdiction.

I think the hyperjump exit needs to be further away from any mass to reduce this effect.

And if you are interdicted - as you start to spin, put 4-pips to engines, hit boost in any direction away from the enemy. Wait a couple of seconds. Hit boost again. Wait for 5+ bars to engines. Hit boost again. As you hit boost the third time, hit the Frame Shift Drive charger - you should be able to get back into super-cruise pretty quickly, with no mass lock.

Then arc back round to your destination. Simples. :)

And if you're really stuck:

Acsellus = High tech, Independent, Corporation, 40k pop.
Eranin = Agriculture, Independent, Communist, 450k pop.
I Boötis = Industrial, Federation, Democracy, 2.2m pop.
Dahan = Extract & Refining, Federation, Colony, 4k pop.
LP98-132 = Refining, Piracy and Rum! Anarchy, 1.5k pop.

I think Dahan is Extrac and Rifin - LP98 Refin only.

In addition to the system info screens that aren't in the game yet but have been linked to in a forum thread somewhere, we also need something like this for each system:

Both deaths were returning to Eranin - for a communist state it's a pretty rough place, and all I was carrying was less than 1k of stuff.

I think the game AI needs some sort of profit vs loss filter - in Eve Online there's no way you would attack another ship if even the loss of 1 corp ship cost more than the profit earned from the loot.

I know the AI ships are meant to be fodder of sorts, but there should be an element of "not worth the effort / risk" built into the game AI just as there will be in the human players who consider it. Otherwise it could lead to players carrying just 4 tonnes of leather being blown out of the sky for a measly potential profit of 200 creds.

Frankly if I were a different sort of player I wouldn't touch the beta again until there was a lot more content and chances to actually make progress; having said that if I can't make progress in the next week then I won't waste my time, because so far all I've tested is the trading / flight / death components and they work just fine.

Agreed. The AI pirates should know the difference between a starting Sidewinder, a tooled up Cobra and a phat-Space Cow Lakon. But this is early days.

Some are, but I really hope not all. :)

Lots more is coming, but I agree, trading, with so many players around, isn't as lucrative as it was in the Alpha.
