No gameplay for spacelegs? Think again!

Assuming Zac Antonaci said about the new era, Elite will be entering a new path like Horizons was, so we can assume it can possibly be Space legs in that regard. A totally game changer. Lot's of new personnel was hired to enhanced the game. Totally plausible. As for the gameplay added we all know now what kind of gameplay it will introduced (EVA/repair/scavenge ship part/espionnage (retrieving special info/data, ...)/bounty hunting commanders in outpost/starport, finding geological samples in thargoids/guardians site) and much more... Lot's of work i know but doable with the great team of talented guys and gals FDEV got.

Yeah! Just imagine the enhanced opprotunities for griefing/ganking that presents. Just docked after running the gauntlet to get to the station and you are off to look into some cargo and run into the gank squad haning around the halls of the station and they "bounty hunt" you. Perhaps we can introduce stealing your ship as well! Cargo deal secured, but the message comes through "your ship has been stolen". That will be 10m CR Cmdr".

Yeah...no thanks, you keep that.

Hopefully station security will be less useless than space security. But to be honest that's exactly what should happen in an anarchy.

i would be happier to see, a more meaningful galaxy with inhabited planets, player build stations, better missions, crafting moduls and ships and better rewards before they even think about a meaningless spaceleg implementation, to be honest...

You know, the rest of the game will not magically vanish if legs are introduced..
Flying space ships will still be the main focus of the game...
I don't get the attitude really.

In the same way as using the SRV became mandatory (Engineering) Passenger Missions become incentivised by their payouts, Wing Missions gradually took over the Mission boards...
it will become difficult if not impossible to completely avoid "Spacelegs" if you want to play the game...(As obviously Frontier will want to see their development time and money utilised)
So it WILL kill the game for me...

I'm a bit confused as to how the list of points in the OP relate either to space legs or to dedicated servers. The only obvious link is the blank screen transition to SRV, which could be replaced with a "get to the SRV" game (on which others have already commented, and I will only add: has anybody figured out just how far the SRV hanger is from the bridge in a cutter? I'm thinking this is not a 30-second trip in zero-G). Presumably the point about UI and the disconnected FSS are that these could be fixed by walking (floating?) to a different control terminal. Sounds nice, but potentially risks the same disruptive issues as getting to the SRV. None of these would require dedicated servers to implement, unless I'm missing something.
The current limitations of multi-crew mostly sound to me like design decisions or running out of time to implement all the details. Since people in the same instance can see what paintjob and ship kit you have I can't see why someone in your cockpit wouldn't be able to see decorations - I'd assume these are just artifacts of which the game client needs to be informed so it can display them. Neither can I see any server/network reason why data from the FSS can't be shared back to the pilot (sounds like something to raise in Beta feedback) or the co-pilot plot a route. No need for a dedicated server or space legs to solve these, as far as I can see. Same with showing NPC pilots in the cockpit - since they are not players the P2P networking model is irrelevant and I can't think of any reason a dedicated server would be needed to render them in the chair next to you. SLF range might be a server issue, but I can't see why - it's distance in the real world that causes P2P issues, not distance of the fighter from the mothership in-game.

I'm not against space legs - I just don't see how it's the answer to these, admittedly irritating, limitations of the current game. As others have said, the networking model won't change - it's not going to be a case of flipping the "P2P" switch to "client/server", but a major design and re-write job.

Frontier focuses on improving the core gameplay features this year. That is great for the long-term lifespan of ED. However, many casual gamers who prefer EVA as essential are still not buying ED. That's a lot of missed revenue. Instead they're playing NMS and SC to fill that itch.

There are literally millions of gamers who prefer space themed games with EVA. So it's wise for Frontier to implement some EVA to increase sales and the player base in 2019.

Although I agree with Space Legs as being essential to the growth of this game...

SC? Really? C'mon now, Cosmo... have you read the CIG forums as of late? 3.3 being a massive failure and they still haven't issued a release date for an actual game yet?

NMS, X4 Foundations.... perhaps.
