No go karts despite concept images

To start off, I'm personally not fussed that we won't get go karts. I'm glad other things were prioritised. What I'm confused about though is how you can have, not just a piece of concept art, but an actual 3D render of a go kart that was shown off before Alpha was even released. To then have nothing at all during beta or as it's been announced today, in the full game?

I just find it a little odd, that we were never, ever, shown water rides until today. Yet these karts were shown ages ago and we don't have them :S??

Please note* I must stress, I am not complaining that go karts aren't in the full game. I just want to know how these sorts of things are decided.

I personally am very bummed out that go karts aren't in the full game because go karts used to be my favorite ride to build (besides coasters) followed closely by mazes which I also think aren't making the full release. They said in the livestream that it won't make it for launch but didn't say it wasn't coming to the game. My assumption (and hope) is that they will release it as free dlc content by the end of the year.

This did not make launch, they ran out of time/resources, and prioritized the two water rides. It will come after that.

I used to love building the karts because you could get insane exitement ratings out of them. Was a bit surprised the first time I built the kart track and got an excitement rating of 18 (didn't realise that above 10 was possible at the time).

If I'm honest though i suspect that the reason is that its just a more difficult thing to code. Now that its all a bit more realistic they can't just all follow the same line as though its a tracked ride, it would look ridiculous. In fact, didn't they used to go through each other like the peeps in general? In which case that really ups the difficulty

I guess it's because making the models doesn't take that much time. Most time is spent thinking of the concept and coding it. To make the guests actually race over a track takes huuuuge amounts of code and AI. They need to make it as efficiënt as possible too. That's why I think they had to pick one over another. I'm very happy with their choice [big grin]

Unless they are fibbing a little but was said today in live stream they worked on water rides first. But still holding out.

Things make the cut unfortunately. Its just the way development goes. It is also a good example of the reasons that Frontier like to keep things back from us until they are happy with them, so disappointment doesn't occur. The go-karts are not really like any other rides in the way they work, so I can see fully how time could be better spent working on something else programming-wise despite the models already being rendered.

I'm bummed they won't make it as well, but that just leaves room for expansion [big grin]

I definitely think they made the right call prioritizing water rides. Those are beautiful and add a lot of flavor to the game. But the sky is the limit with this game. Would love to see some expansions down the road. I have no problem with paying for quality! [up]

I missed them saying that go karts definitely will not be in the game. They did mention, however, that they couldn't go through the whole game in the livestream because it would take "3 or 4 hours". If they're not in yet, then hopefully down the road sometime. Wasn't there also a dev diary or livestream earlier this year that talked about bumper cars, too?

Really sucks these didnt make it in, but hopefully we will see more stuff come in in the future, including the karts :D they were one of the best parts of rct back in the days

Very disappointing that it won't be in at release because I was pretty excited to build an awesome go kart track.
But if I did have to choose between the Log Flume and River Rapids or the Go Karts at launch I probably would say the water rides.

The good news though is that it does sound like it is still being worked on and will hopefully come in an update in the future.

It would have interesting to see the community reaction if it had been the other way round and go karts were there instead of water rides.

Not sure how I feel about it tbh. These parks won't feel proper until we have these sorts of rides , along with haunted houses etc. My preference would have been those over water rides any day of the week. But here we are.

Regardless the stream tonight showed that PC is still going to be epic. I mean seriously that ride at the end with all the triggered events. The possibilities are endless

With the Trigger system and the piece by piece building I'm inclined to wonder if the trigger system could be used with a queue path... If so all they really need to make a proper "Haunted house" or "Fun-house" would be a queue line with perhaps some modular sections like wobble floors and barrel spins that can be built into the path...

hmmm, its a bit difficult, theres 2 things that come to mind, 1 being that people were more fussed about water rides.
The 2nd being that if Go Karts are programmed in, you have to take into account which guess is going to win the race, the whole new AI for the Go Kart racers, its not as simple as previous games as they mainly had 2 lanes to drive in.

Maybe people will understand now why they were not showing anything more until 2 weeks ago (and some people were crying because they actually thought the were not going to afd anything substantial).
From now on you will mostly see things that are ready for the game. Thank the go karts and security guards for that, and sorry if im bursting anyone's bubble, but thats how game development usually works.
Also, priorities.

I don't mind it. They clearly been push by the head of the company for the holiday season before the game was actually ready. As long as they don't ask for me to pay for it later.

well you cant have it all

making rides for a modern game like Planet Coaster just takes more time than for the early rct games

I just hope they will be put out as free DLC and not pay-per-ride DLC Not that I never want to spend money again, I dont mind expansionpacks, as long as they're fair expansionpacks [wink]

My opinion is that we all cried for log flume and rapid river for the base game, so frontier developed in the background without giving us information like the wooden coaster. Therefore i think they presented the water rides a little bit to fast. Like they wanna say " hey here is it". They looked like i don't expected. I expected more spectacular presentation. I believe they aren't made with the same quality like the coasters and other rides. Off course they say that they presenting stuff if it's ready or not. But for my eyes and that compared to other parts of the game isn't ready

And at least the go kart could be in final or not. We will see
