No guests at restaurants/shops in the middle of the park??????

how can my food/shopping rating be low... i build a restaurant/shop right in the middle of my park...
you can see hundreds of people on the path right outside of it, but when you look at them in management view it says 0/320 people inside.
they are powered, path connected, etc. fully operational. just no guests. happens at numerous buildings in my park.
some are completely full as soon as you build them and some sit empty for hours.

the game is cool, but it is definitely lacking in instruction/explaining what/why things are happening.
i've managed to get 5 stars on all but one island, and i'd like to know why this happens so when i try the last one it doesn't take forever.

Each viewing gallery/tower demands to be in the sphere of influence of food/shopping buildings. Ask Frontier for why a fast food joint should be next to a T-Rex exhibit, not me. I'm with you on this. Even the movie version of Jurassic World had a central plaza full of shops and stuff, and didn't spread everything out across the park.

In short, demands are very localized around the buildings that generate demand (welcome centers, hotels, viewing galleries & platforms) so the way the demand system works isn’t conducive to the ‘Main St. USA’ type of area (like you see when you start Tacaño)- they don’t draw crowds in their own right, you have to meet demand where it is. Have hotels, division hqs nearby to help, but the main st shops often meet demand several times over so you need to place a high rating viewing attraction and paddock close by too.

For example: when I started playing I used a Disney world thought process; right at the entrance do a stretch between the gate and the innovation center lined with most if not all of the shops. Most of them didn’t get business.

Now I build my Jurassic World more like, well, Jurassic World. Right next door is the big star of the whole park to bring in the business. In the JW movie, Rexy’s pen is right next to that “T” shaped main st. between innovation center and out along the mosasaur lake.

I personally don't like how all the view galleries and everything expect you to build shops and other things near them. All it does is take up space and makes the park look like a mess. They give you this monorail system and it doesn't actually get used the way it should. The Hotels and stores/shops should all be in one place. Like a guest area. Then there would be a monorail station next to this area to shuttle guests around the park at various different stops. Basically near the enclosures. The guests would get on the monorail and head out to which ever part of the park they want to go to. There they could see the Dinosaurs and ride the Gyrospheres and when they get hungry and or tired they can get back on the monorail and head back to the guest area. This way you have more room for enclosures and can show off more Dinosaurs.

Having to put shops all around the viewing galleries make the park look bad. I have never been to a park that did stuff like that. Most of the time all the food and drinks were in one area. I could see placing the shops near the galleries if people just walked along the path to which ever part of the park they wanted but with the monorail system there is no point in this.

My food/fun buildings etc have now stopped letting me change their purpose - food/fun/finances etc. I change purpose and it switches back to 'none' every time... weird.

They haven't "stopped" letting you change it...you never could. That button just changes the view in the management screen.

Personally, I don't find the shops / attractions that bad, needing to be near viewing galleries etc... a lot of theme parks (and even zoos) will have 'themed areas' including rides/enclosures, with food / gift stores in close proximity, following the theme.

One example: PDF because you can zoom in better than the original image:
http://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/sites/default/files/SanDiegoZoo_GuideMap_11-22-17-REV.pdf

They usually have restrooms too... hmm, we don't have restrooms or picnic areas, which would be cool.

I do find having to spam massive hotels everywhere annoying. They are awkward to place and take up so much space... they could do with being double the capacity, imo.

Ok.... I change from 'none' to 'food' and when I press O to go back, it switched back to 'none' every time. Didn't use to do that?!
Even if it did used to not go back (which it didn't, but I'll humor you), the button is for management view only. You can't change anything with it even if the label stays at what you set it at. Each guest building has functions that are static (except for prices and capacity).

That's just the management view, not it's purpose. It alway has done that since management views aren't always on unless you click it on to view them.

Agreed.

It never fails to amaze me how patronising some people can be over a game. Totally made up. Not real. Thanks for humouring me, you're such a gent.

(Sorry I'm not as good as you!)

I answered your question (as did someone else) and you argued about it. Why be surprised when my second answer is patronizing?

Exactly. Like a zoo. There is no arcade and bowling alleys beside each enclosure. I didn't like this requirement for building up the rating. I usually have 2 areas of guest buildings in my islands. Power stations are already an eyesore.

In Post #11 I posted a link to San Diego zoo (never been there, i'm from the UK) .

Within each themed area, containing a few enclosures, there are food courts, shopping, info buildings, restrooms and a 4D Theater (in two of them).
They are not in a single location only... I've never seen one where it is like that, to be honest.

Problem is... not the buildings... its the map size. Who doesn't want more space for dino's :p
The sandbox map only has enough space to build a quarter of that zoo, by the looks of it.

I can second this.

I’ve been to a number of zoos around the country; and I’m most familiar with the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. You tend to get themed areas, with decentralized food, shopping, and other activities. There’s stuff by the front gate, sure, but every region (geographically related exhibits) has its own restaurant and gift shop.

Interesting.. well Im sure they have a little more room that JWE for that concept. :)
