No I DON'T want to see new ships B4....

Greetings Commanders,

First of all I have to admit I really enjoy being in the Elite Universe. I am enjoying it since November 2014.

To the point now,
me as well as others have been asking for some time indirectly for FD to give us more information concerning the UNFINISHED ships which are already playable. For those who don't know about it we have currently (if I am not mistaken) 4 playable ships which are actually not doing what they are suppose to do

the ships are:

Orca
Imperial Clipper
Federal Dropship
Anaconda

Orca as well as Clipper are suppose to be able to carry VIPs with special missions within systems.
Federal Dropship is supposed to carry Troops.
Anaconda, as read in the description can take a special module in order to have sidewinders (and similar small ships) being able to dock on it.

I consider for the for first 3 ships, it is really so simple by adding extra missions which are gonna be related to VIPs and troops.
Concerning Anaconda I do realize it will be a little bit more complicated than just having in Bulletin' Board a special mission. But hey, if I read in the Shipyard Description that Orca can carry VIPS, Federal Dropship carries troops and Anaconda has a special docking bay, I really need to see them. If not, FD please remove those inaccurate things from the ships' description till it can actually be done.

Having more ships is really great, I totally agree and can't wait to see them.

But,

I dont see a lot of players having Orcas or Federal Dropships. Do you wonder why? I don't.

If more ships are released b4 taking care of the already playable ones, the "unfinished" product that some ppl whine about will further gonna be boosted.

Having an Orca carrying a VIP in a dangerous system, might increase the coop and communication since a wise commander might ask for help from other Commanders who have a fighter of some short (as we actually see it now with NPCs)
and

I really want to see a variety of ships being chosen by fellow Commanders. Currently there is no real option from going from Type-7 rather than acquiring a Python. And I know a few commanders who got that Orca, only to realize that apart from being a beautiful ship, there was nothing more the ship offered and they had to sell it back and lose money.

I agree that those ships, except the Clipper that does a fine job at trading, do not serve any purpose since passengers are not implemented yet. And passengers missions better have good rewards since it is the sole purpose of the Orca and Dropship.

Until Wings are released, such a module would be pretty useless I think. But I fail to see what this docking module would bring that Wings won't. Ability to repair and reload those Sideys maybe ?

Reload would be nice. Sideys would have all missile loadout, so once the Anaconda stripped the shields, the missile spam by Sideys starts =b

for passangers and troops we need the colonisation mechanism to be working which requires a working background simulation and a host of new features and missions according to the DDA documents which are missing for reasons unknown.

As far as docking, that would make them capital ships and that wont happen yet .

I'm not talking about a gazillion Condors, but 1 or 2 Sideys would be acceptable I think.

RELEASE THE KRA... SIDEYS !

I agree in principle; I wanted an Orca the moment I saw its picture in the newsletter, but I never bought one because it seems likely to get blown out of the sky by anyone I might meet. I'd want one regardless if I could use it for well-paying passenger missions, especially passenger smuggling... but I think even the smallest addition to the game has to go through so much balancing, and have so many small changes made to the game's other systems, that ostensibly simple tasks become long complex operations fraught with danger.

I expect they'd need to add passenger compartment modules, missions that required those, price the rewards for those missions in the kind of range that won't turn the entire front page of the forum into "FD ARE EVIL WARLOCKS! Useless passenger missions added while collecting rocks remains boring!", have the passengers die when their module is damaged, deal with what happens when you don't complete their mission in time, balance the catastrophic reputation loss from letting a VIP die under your protection in a ship not designed for combat, and whether that's illegal... so many headaches.

If they just cloned trading in the meantime and treated the passengers as expensive cargo, people would probably assume they're seeing the final version of the idea and complain about more half-baked systems. You can't really win.

Also they'd need to add a little spaceman model for when you jettison your "cargo". :D

A passenger transporting mechanism would be very welcome. Not just for the Orca.
I would love to instal a passenger module in my Cobra, Asp or Clipper to be able to transport some well paying passengers.

I have no idea if it was ever FD's intention for us to carry troops in the Federal Dropship. Would be cool though.
It would be great if we then also got the option to attach to the hull of an enemy capital ship or station and burn our way through the hull to deploy troops.

Personally I feel when stuff like that is in, and we have more elaborate military missions, we should not get those mission via the general bulletin board any more. I think that is weird. There should be implemented a separate system to obtain these military missions. It could be something simple as a separate military bulletin board, only accessible for those that are trusted enough by a faction (or are high enough in rank), or it could be via a contact person, or via docking at military stations, capital ships etc.

I believe passenger missions are supposed to be soon (*TM). To me, it sounds like a lot of your concerns are going to be addressed on March 1st with the new Beta.

Think about it like this, if you are transporting the President, Prime Minister, Grand Poohbah (<=screw you spellcheck watch the Flintstones!), you are going to want to have a security detail with you. The way the game is now, that's just not possible.

Regarding your Anaconda scenario. I like the thought, but expand it. A module for all heavy ships. Suddenly, a Type-9 Heavy can bring a fully outfitted eagle (Viper?). Solo interdictions in Cobras and Asp's become a lot more difficult. Again though, we need Wings before this happens, and I believe it will be soon.

oh yes you are so right,

i forgot about the modules required for carrying VIPS. they could scale from like basic to super lux!

Same thing applies also for troops with Federal Dropship. It could have training facility modules and such

I agree with op, the game need be fleshed out before singular content is added to the game. But the "problem" might be that the people designing ships are faster than the rest of the crew and we can't let them sit and do nothing.

Agreed! Pls FD give us at least:
vip module
troop module
simple missions A--B to carry vip

This should be enough to justify the meaning of these ship while waiting for more complex integrations.

I agree with the OP : a ship should be released only if it has a purpose in the game. I've been told that the ppl designing the ships and the content for the ships (like Orca / Passengers missions) are not the same and are not working at the same speed nor at the same moment. If this is true, FD has to :

1) either release the ship and delay the missions for it (again, what they did for the Orca)
2) either wait for content to be ready and push the whole package together

I personaly think that option 2 is the way to go. I kinda accept option 1 if the time between releasing the ship and the content is short (like 2 or 3 weeks). But really, releasing the Orca at launch and not having the missions for it 2 months later doesn't make much sense.

Until Wings are released, such a module would be pretty useless I think. But I fail to see what this docking module would bring that Wings won't. Ability to repair and reload those Sideys maybe ?

You assume that carrying a smaller ship would be for a second player only. As I understood it, this feature is on hold because they want to make it possible for YOU to get up from your chair on the bridge, go down to the hangar, climb into a Sidewinder and launch, while the Anaconda is just hanging out in space, waiting for you.

There are a number of uses for this. Maybe you want to scout ahead without risking your big, expensive ship. Or maybe you strip out everything on your Sidey and use it as a mining shuttle. The 'Conda has expansive cargo bays, is well protected... but it sucks for mining. Too big and slow. Well, a mining Sidey would be just a perfect match for that.

The Orca's going to be in a bad place for a while yet, but they should really balance the Drop Ship as if it's the cargo only edition and give it another internal slot and more armor (it's supposed to be a tank, give it military-grade by default and allow it to layer on extra ablative armor).

As for the Conda. They should add a big ol' refuel repair and rearm tender arm for that class 4 weapon slot.
