NO island customization in sandbox ? (as in Jurassic Park Operation Genesis)

i was really disappointed when i saw the space you are alowed to play in sandbox mode. You are only restricted to a small uncustomizable space, where in Jurassic Park operation genesis (the old game) you have the whole island to manipulate and edit to your liking. not the sendbox i was looking for to be honest
