No lensing effect with Black Holes? Am I doing something wrong?

Well i made it all the way out to the HIP 63835 system the one with 3 black holes and in a nutshell. No lensing effect. I got as close as I dare with heat damage and prox warnings in my face. No lensing effect at all.

I went into my settings and turned all the settings up to maximum at the risk of nuking my basic off the shelf rig. Nope, nada, nothing.

I tried all three holes, nope.

So i'm in the process of limping off home.

Do you need a special graphics card say a PhysX type one to see the effect? Or isn't it nessesary?

No screenshots sadly I was too honked off to take any.

I think I'll take a break from the game for a few days. Not a happy bunny.

You need to be close enough and move at a considerable speed to see it. A screenshot would be pointless. There is no distortion, but rather a displacement effect the size of a small planet, depending on the mass of thing. No PhysX needed.

I had a lensing effect before, but yesterday I visited 6 BHs and none had a lensing effect, so I guess it is a bug which was introduced with the latest server update?

This is just speculation but every time I've noticed the effect "missing", it's been in a system with more than one black hole. Maybe the effect can't handle more than one distortion in the system? I visited many Black Holes when i surveyed all the S171 stars, and most of them had working distortions (although "working" is a misnomer since the effect itself is thousands of times too large for stellar black holes).

I thought that there were only certain black holes that had no lensing effect. Primary BH doesn't have it, but I've seen ones orbiting a primary star closely, like that system that OP mentioned and they had the lensing effect. It's a bug, pretty sure. Keep looking and you'll find one though.

A good thing to do is to untarget the BH temporarily to see its yellow "emergency drop area". If there's no lensing effect within it when you are fairly close, then it's bugged.

I went to a system with 2 black holes and the lensing was there, I didn't need to be moving to see it, just get in a position so a nebula is behind it

i went to the same system yesterday. the black hole orbiting the O5V has 15 sol masses and didn't show any effect, even at a distance under 1ls.

i've seen smaller ones have an effect. and i've yet to see one that works with nebulae in the background. something seems buggy.

Post number 2 here :- https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=88361&highlight=

The lensing effect will be proportional to the black hole's mass. It's working fine.

Flew out to the blackhole in the Pleides Nebula, lensing effect in the rift was like a bad LSD trip, ship was stationary and the the effect was clearly visible. I really wish the effect was applied to insystem stars, the games engine should be more than capable.
