No love for seeker missiles?

I've been rocking a pair of Class 1 seeker launchers on my Cobra for a little while now and they're pretty sweet. I understand that you can get more raw damage output from dumbfires, but seekers can nail a small target at long range, which I feel like I value more - and if I need raw damage I'd rather it come for free from my laser banks. =P Anyone else enjoy seeker missiles?

Incidentally, I've recently paired my seeker launchers with a pair of Class 2 gimballed beams, and they are ALSO sweet. But everyone knows that already. =P

If I had an Asp I'd be tempted to have some seeker rockets. But as it is I feel I need 2 lasers and 2 multicannons (or cannons) for typical dogfighting situations.

Seeker have a high price tag, low damage, limited ammo, and can be hard-countered by like half the systems in the game. On top of that, they are trivial to straight up out-run.

They are the worst weapon.

ECM is supposed to be able to hard-counter seeker missiles, right? I haven't actually seen that work - I've blasted plenty of NPC's carrying an ECM. And I know that chaff doesn't fool them at all. If they are supposed to help against seekers... they kind of don't, at the moment.

As for point defense cannons, you can sometimes spoof those by getting within sneezing distance of your target (I realize this kind of defeats the purpose, but if you really have to stick a missile in someone's tailpipe, you'll find a way to do it). They also only cover a hemisphere each, and I've definitely found blind spots in their coverage before - even on big targets.

As for the price tag, shooting off a single pair of missiles costs 1,000cr, and emptying both launchers costs 12,000 - which isn't chump change obviously, but a single decent bounty or combat bond can cover that on its own, and you won't be emptying your launchers against a single target unless he REALLY ruined your day.

Granted, I haven't taken on a CMDR using my seekers, and that's obviously a totally different boat race. And ofc it's just my opinion - they're fun to me and I feel like I've gotten a lot of mileage out of them. ^^

I used them for a while but cost vs. damage means they're an expensive luxury. Plus with missiles being "rebalanced" in general then they're even less effective. Personally have found that Beams and MCs are more effective, and you can't beat the sounds of hearing someone's hull being shredded by MCs either ;)

I like seekers very much... got 5 launchers on my Conda at the moment. Really great to take out small NPC ships quickly, after stripping their shields.

For PvP that's something different unfortunately, as they are too easy to hard-counter, which is sad.

Unofortunately it is very difficult to hit the sweet spot when it comes to weapon balancing... make them a bit too poweful, and everybody will use them... make them a bit too weak and they will be mostly useless. Currently they could indeed use a small buff, at least in terms of being harder to counter.

I mentioned in another post re Cobra load out...had Seekers, tried Dumbfires, went straight back to Seekers!

Used to carry seekers on my T9 as self defense against NPC's and Cmdr's, also a couple of torpedo's. since 1.1 they are useless as defense for traders, nearly no damage to shields.

But for my Anaconda, or any other heavy weapons platform they are lethal, I strip shields with my Beam lasers, as soon as they are down I fire of some seekers. Two tordpedos generally finish the job when at 40% and targeting the power plant.

Costs a bit of money but guaranteed devastation and so much fun.

For general dog fighting I think the price tag really isn't worth it unless you have a huge cushion of money. For traders in the higher tiers though, it could make sense. I'm trading in an asp right now, armed to the teeth. No missiles though. However I do plan on getting a Type-7 though at some point, and with four small hard points, and lack of maneuverability, I figure some turreted lasers, and some seekers could be a boon.

I wish seekers were a bit more like those in I-War. Easy to Spoof (or fry with ECM), but hits like a rock (especially when shields are down), and the one targetted should get an escalating beep-beep-BEEP sound as the missile is closing in :D

Last time I've tried to take down a tiny Eagle with them... I wasted 50 (!) of them plus two Torpedos (ran out of ideas).

Weapon damage : almost none. N/A.

To me, Guided Missiles... a very expensive - but at least potent Weapon class for my Transporters... became completely useless.
If an Eagle can recharge its tiny Shields faster than 50 Missiles (fired in 4-Packs each in minimum time possible) - I don't consider such a thing a "Weapon" anymore.
Just expensive tubes of worthless metal I can shoot around me.

Shield damage has been drastically reduced for all missiles. They are still potent against hull armor, though, so use some energy weapons to down the shields, then finish them off with missiles. A salvoe of 4 seekers should be enough to take out an eagle without shields.
