I probably will get it. Elite is a game I take very seriously. NMS could be the relaxing game I'm looking for.
Its not as relaxing as people make out. For example, you're on a planet mining a large lump of gold to sell, you find yourself constantly looking for sources of carbon to replenish your multitool. Oops, You accidentally hit a sentinel, now you have to fight them off, but oh damn, now i need to reload and whats that, the temperature has dropped/acid rain has started to fall/large creatures are trying to eat you???
Add an acidic planet to the mix where you find lots of whatever substance you're after, but you're against the clock because the acid is slowly killing you whilst you are searching for more energy for your multitool.
It used to be a pain just to replenish your multitool charge but they streamlined that a little.
I like it, but ED is better. Sure, you have atmospheric planetary landings and you can have abase, legs and even vehicles. All of this comes at great cost......grind it is indeed.
As for the ship designs, well you can get one that looks like the Viper, you can also get one that looks like a cross between the Viper and an X Wing, and one that's crossed with a TIE fighter too. But, these can (but not always) be hard to find, depending on what system you're in. Its not like ED where you can go and buy a specific ship, these you have to be lucky enough to find.
Combat is awful as the ship controls are terrible.
All of the above being said, it can be relaxing at times, it also looks fantastic in comparison with the planets and star systems of ED. That plus they have been updating it so perhaps they have addressed a lot of the issues with it.
He's promised big changes are coming with the 'NEXT' update. Only time will tell. I liken Sean Murray to a snake oil salesman. He pulled a fast one, but got found out.
