Go to a different system.
Since this game randomly generates missions in various places, it's not like WOW or any other MMORPG where you start off in a Newbie Zone with Starter Quests. Sometimes that means you gotta get out into space and really look around. I did a video in Gamma, and it took me 45 minutes to find my first suitable mission. The very next time I started a new career, I was completing missions in the first minute. It's just a crap shoot sometimes.
