No More Board Flipping...

Update to the roadmap for 3.3

Won't be able to board flip anymore due to a new dedicated mission server, missions will be the same across all game modes.

Interesting that FDEV believe only 2.8% of daily online players board flip, thats a much much lower figure than i would have expected.

I hope there's a lot more missions to choose from.

Will be hard to fill up cabins for dedicated passenger vessels, guess it's fdevs attempt to address people making a killing on bulk passenger missions.

That's what I'm worried about. I'm hoping they'll tweak the way it generates missions. Even having it pick out a couple of destinations and decide "today, a lot of people want to go here in particular" would be great - and provided it didn't roll somewhere like smeaton orbital or sevastyanov station or one of the other crazy-long-cruise ones, it'd let someone fill a ship without being an outright goldrush.

Hell, if lots of players overdoing a mission meant it could be depleted the same way markets could, that problem would solve itself. Someone takes every hauling mission to barnard's star? Great, nobody needs stuff shipped there any more so it gets less weighting as a mission destination, meaning next time the board flips, more of the new missions are going to be pointed at tau ceti or whatever. Someone takes all those, great, now tau ceti has a low weight, barnard's star is recovering, but most of the new missions go to alpha centauri. And so on.

Would be cool if they'd fix some of the payouts or spawn rates or anything else about missions...but I guess they had to chop off the part that was letting players play. Ah well, can't say FDev isn't consistent.

Optimistically, preventing board-flipping could allow them to rebalance payments without causing even bigger imbalances.

I mean, if somebody is just docking taking some missions and then flying them, they're going to earn, say, Cr10m per hour.
If somebody else lands at the same station, cherry-picks the best paying missions and then board-flips to take 20 of them, they might earn ten times that amount.

As a result of this, FDev probably keep payment low simply to prevent those who do board-flip from earning even more insane amounts.

With a dedicated mission server they should be able to offer limited numbers of highly-paid missions which players will be able to benefit from without having other players board-flip to stack heaps of them.

Feel bad for those that sit and spin waiting for days to get that ascension mission lol... glad those days are over for me. For now anyway.

I never understood why it was a problem in the first place, but hey its only taken them four years to get around to doing something about something they saw as not working as intended.

I just hope the missions now available equal the amount I would have got by flipping the boards a few times. I dont like to run empty.

If there are more missions to choose from then I think that's good.

If there isn't then maybe it will just be more of an obstacle rather than an improvement.

I dunno, wait and see I suppose.

The only issue I see with no board flipping is it will be harder to get invintation, navi rank and system permit missions. Waiting and praying to RNG for particular mission to appear? Doesn't sound fun for me.

Think they should buff mission payouts by about 20% not 10%.

And if they spawn a lot more missions in one go then yeah, a welcomed change.

Hopefully this isn't just a way to restrict people to only being able to earn 10 million an hour because we definitely don't need a nerf to money making.

And also, they'd have to reduce the RNG for navy rank missions, invitations and permit missions because this could make them take even longer to appear for people.

Board flipping was never a solution, it's a workaround for a problem.

I'm all for getting rid of board flipping, as long as they fix the problem of having to wait and wait to find a good mission of the type that you want.

We should be spending our time doing missions, not rambling around from one station to another looking for something worthwhile to do.

Pretty indifferent to this news, but I do wish that they’d rethink the mission board and give Wing missions a dedicated subsection. We need more missions of each type rather than higher payouts, or a more advanced filtering system that actually yields a greater number of the type of missions that we want.

I’m also very surprised by the 2.8% figure (colour me incredulous). Is the guy responsible for coding the combat scenario around the Gnosis also in charge of gathering these stats? I suspect a misplaced decimal point. :D

You're serious with this? Game practically throws credits at you all the time.. Single jump cargo missions paying easily 2-8million for 120-180 cargo. With current payouts, credits are basically meaningless
