No More Stuttering Near Planets since...... Ages

Hi all

Just a quick question to satisfy my curiosity really.

I've been playing stutter-free when flying past planets in supercruise for so long that I can't remember when it actually stopped. I've heard the same from various other players.

Was there any official indication/announcement of what finally fixed it?

Best

Not suffered from stuttering for as long as I care to remember. Planets do appear to me as a fuzzy ball until I get right up close and personal, then the texture pops in. Even then though, still no stutter. Pretty sure this is down to me using a crappy laptop to play on though. According to the minimum spec I should not be able to play at all. I get my new rig next month so hope to see some improvement then :)

Was fixed (for many people, mostly Nvidia users, not all) in the 1.4 release. Unfortunately it was replaced by some texture popping... well, at least it's smooth.

I used to get stutter on my old i7 870 + GTX 750Ti rig but since upgrading to a 4690K and a GTX 970 Strix the stutter is gone. Even my hyoperspace is near stutterless now.

That's SO hilarious.
Why? Cause I'm on the same boat!!!

I can't even play Horizons (I have it) properly cause Horizons essentially needs DX11 to be able to land on planets, my lappy isn't DX11...It literally doesn't let you further down the atmosphere when approaching a planet :D I've see it! It's great! :D

Need a new rig. Oh Yes. I have something in mind.

Regards,

I've not seen stuttering since FD added 64 bit. I'm not sure that was the fix but it was around that time.

I've had maybe two or three hitches when approaching planets in SC in the last few months.

EDIT: I keep meaning to thank FD for fixing all the other types of stuttering (in asteroids etc.) but then I see someone post about having stuttering issues so don't want to be start celebrating when others are still suffering.

Same here. It's awful. And it's not your laptop, I'm playing on a i7-6700K/390X.

Only stuttering I get is inside stations when I approach the slot to leave, or arriving at the pad.
All modes.
Not sure what causes it.

It's not just you. I'm playing on an OC GTX 980ti, i7-6700k, and 16GB 3200mhz RAM. Still got them fuzzy balls.

Also, for me at least, the stuttering stopped around the CQC update.

No stutteing, but I think we all get that pop in. I have 16gb ram, and AMD Fury and still suffer from it.

Same thing here (stop of stuttering, but fuzzy balls) - GTX980, i7-5820k @4.0 GHz, 16 GB 3000 MHz RAM. Win 7 "squeaky clean" install with only three or four games (I don't use this install for anything but gaming).

I'm on a pretty high-end rig and that's what I give the credit for having never suffered from stuttering. I have, however, noticed the texture-popping issue since 1.4. It's a difficult balancing act for developers, because if you preload too much, that preloading takes cycles and memory and causes stuttering. Back it off and texture popping becomes an issue, because textures are called for in the render pipeline before they are fully loaded.
