The lore has it iirc that suits are equipped (like ships) with some kind of devices that gathers information and produces an audio que. Audio masking is a counter measure to the suit picking up shooting.

Audio masking question

It only works outdoors. For indoor work, you want noise suppression, but do you need it for non atmospheric planets? After all, no atmosphere means no sound, right? Cheers.
