Yes, I had to laugh at that.

I think it should read: " Humans are highly territorial and seemingly rebuff all diplomatic overtures with unmitigated hostility"

In Elite Dangerous it is the humans who opened hostilities. The Thargoids only studied us and scanned us.
I still hope that the game has a memory, and records who actually acts hostile towards the Thargoids, and I hope it is consequential in the future.
Of course I suspect it won't matter at all.
