Try convincing the computer gods you're in need of another mineral and you're sure to find painite.
Take Bottom Hat with you but careful he gets handsy when he's had a few toffee crisps.
Going to take a wild guess OP is laser mining in a hotspot in a metal-rich ring rather than a metallic.

Was mining last night in a Platinum hotspot & Painite in 'roids where there.................though they're now on my 'ignore' list because of the price volatility that they currently have.
BTW while you're hunting for Painite in the Platinum hotspots, scoop up some abundant Platinum & make some credits

Certainly is a lot of obsolete youtube guides out there, which is not the fault of the content makers but they could mark these as old game mechanics.
Hazardous RES with painite spot did the trick in the end, first rock 49%!
Didn't see a single glimpse of the resource across many single hotspots. Bad rng or it's quite frankly broken.
