No Patience - Freeport Just Now

A lot of people seem to play this issue down, and feel it isn't that much of a big deal.

But just wait until Standard Beta and Gamma - this is going to be a HUGE issue. The docking isn't made for multiplayer.

That said - I saw in the DDF thread that there will be docking queues of some type eventually. If we get them, we will avoid most of this problem.

This was how i lost my original type 9 (20 minutes after I bought it). I was reset again back to a side winder. The fault was ultimately mine for not knowing about shields, and having them up for docking to stop this sort of thing. Now ( a week later ) I am back in a type 9 and better informed, but when you come up against something of equal mass, I would have been so annoyed if I was reset again to a sidewinder for a second time due to someone else's lack of patience.

But my issues aside, I can see what happened to me, happening again to a lesser informed commander. Buying a new ship and getting barged out the way on it;s maiden voyage. Perhaps a extra warning should be given at the point docking is granted to say "Recommend full shielding", like it does with the warning about landing gear not being down when over the assigned pad.

At least pilots (new and existing) are then given an extra chance of survival .

Pretty much the exact same thing happened with me, although this was a week or two ago. I was committed to the exit and the other Lakon was late although I'm sure they'd say they got there as soon as they could. I had full shields, as you would. I think somehow we knocked sides and swung around each other. We both survived.

Edit - part of my thinking at the time was I've got less time to leave than you have to dock. And I get shot at if I don't leave. So if I reversed out of the letterbox and started playing 'no, you first' the consequences are a bit more serious for me. So I propose large ship exiting has priority rule.

It is possible the interior of the station hadn't rendered for them and they hadn't looked at the scanner. It is possible there was a net code bug. It was even possible they had a cracked cockpit and needed to dock that quickly to avoid suffocation. I think it is most likely they just were being a little silly.

I disagree this is something we need to be worried about. At the moment more and more people have got to the stage they can afford a Lakon at a stage of development that forces us together. Once the full galaxy is here these things will be far rarer. And it's quite fun isn't it?

I was the one coming into the station and was in the doorway, they were the one that was not near the doorway at the time we saw each other, but I was committed and halfway though, and they had time to stop but didnt.

anyway... moot point now... just annoyed me at the time. :)

I am in disbelief, I am in a type 9 ALREADY IN THE ENTRANCE of the freeport station, and another type 9 inside the station could not wait 10 seconds for me to finish coming though....... no!!! far better to them to try and leave at the same time, and not by passing me on my left or on my right (not that you can even do that with those ships), by just coming directly at me.

If you are in a type 9, and there is another type 9 already coming though (that is to say in inside the blue part of the entrance) , HAVE SOME SODDING PATIENCE ! you will keep your ship longer !

it happens man, give the community time to mature a little and theyll soon realise not to risk it. im in a sidewinder still (only casually playing until closer to release) and given its such a tiny ship i can zoom into stations full throttle and using boost and such, still use the green side to come in though.

The docking isn't made for multiplayer.

On the contrary, it is in fact the ultimate multiplayer situation. It's one of the few places in ED where people actually are affected by what others do. You have to consider what others are up to in the letterbox or you're toast!

An analogy that someone used in a different thread of this forum, was that docking is like parking your car at a large grocery store, you have to make sure your car is between the lines of your bay, while taking care not to hit other cars, or people while doing it.

:)

In every other online game I have played, players tend not to care how their behaviour effects others...and in fact will go out of their way to ensure their behaviour causes other people problems.

Except you have to consider the online Internet mentality that will soon be coming into the game.

In your analogy you will need to add people that park across the lines, box you in your bay, hit your car multiple times, drive over your car, ram your car until there is nothing left, park trucks in a car bay and so on.

All for "fun" of course.

Unless there are rules to prevent this stuff, then that is what will happen. And if there are rules, it ruins the fun and freedom we currently have.
