No Separate Controls for System Map in ED: O?

So, I just reinstalled Odyssey because, like Thanos, it's inevitable...

Was setting up controls for a new HOTAS and I can't seem to find proper dedicated controls for moving around the system map. The game seems to be trying to use my galaxy map controls. This doesn't work well since those controls are set up to 'fly' through that 3d space.

What am I missing, here?

Well thinking about it I probably use the same controls, but they work for the system map and the galaxy map. Zoom in/out with mouse wheel, select object by clicking, the only differences is I drag the system map around using the mouse but use the W/S/A/D to move around in the galaxy map and dragging with the mouse rotates the galaxy map or goes up and down depending on what mouse button I depress.

A HOTAS setup would be different of course but the controls I use do different things depending on what map I am in, galaxy/system, so there must be some way to set them up seperately.

GalMap and SysMap have always shared controls, EDO (unfortunately) didn't change in that regard. Specifically shared between the two are
  • Translate x-axis
  • Translate y-axis
  • Zoom axis
(and their digital counterparts) so start by binding those first, but set them up how you want the SysMap to behave. The remaining bindings for controlling the GalMap will have to follow from that and depend on what your HOTAS offers. For a 3-axis joystick the "Set y-axis to z-axis" modifier might come in handy here as it allows to squeeze in a fourth analog control. Camera yaw and pitch are a good candidate for a ministick if you have one, but those can work OK-ish with digital inputs as well.

Hmm... I guess that makes sense. I don't remember specifics of my old setup in Horizons (damn you muscle memory!) but I was able to "fly" through the gal-map the same way I pilot a ship (more or less), but still managed to pan/zoom around the system map using my stick only.

I like my current controls for the gal-map, so I think I'll just set up alt controls to use in the sys-map...

I already had to set up alt controls for menus, since I'm playing mouse & throttle on foot/srv and every time I access a settlement terminal I was forced to navigate the menus with my joystick... But the ground combat plays so much better with a mouse.

I mentioned this in a thread I created recently but in Horizons I've always used LMB+RMB to drag the map around. Sadly, in EDO, holding the LMB while dragging will cause the game to plot a route, even to a pixel sized star. I really think that the new galaxy map is an example of overloaded UI design, I wish FDev would revert to the EDH map. There might be some features that could be retained but the current EDO galaxy map is a step in the wrong direction.
