NO SPACE STATIONS. Advice please

First off, love the game. Been on since Xbox release. Took me a while to get a hang of everything, and the galaxy map blew me away. Still does lol. Anyway I spent some time getting money for a new ship and some upgrades and set out for Orion. I can fuel on the go, and I don't absolutely need one, but I haven't seen a station in at least 20 jumps. Do stations become fewer in number in parts of the galaxy?

Stations are non existent (as far we know anyway ;) ) outside of human space. which is around a 1000 light years or so from Sol.

Human space with Space stations is only a small cluster of space.

There are are some out liying outposts "Unity" and the Sirius Corporation outposts but I dont think any are in the direct of Orion

They do when you leave the bubble of human inhabited space.

How far are you out? Are you able to jump back to get a fuel scoop? If not, then all isn't lost. People can come to your aid with fuel transfer drones - if you find you can't jump, shut down as many ship systems as you can and then log off, and ask for help here.

If you want to explore, you absolutely need a fuel scoop - there's no stations to refuel from outside inhabited space. A fuel scoop allows you to refuel from specific classes of stars, so you still have to plan your route - the scoopable stars are the O, B, A, F, G, K and M stellar classes. A useful mnemonic to remember them is 'Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me'.

So, if you are running out of fuel, and do not have a scoop, turn round! If you do small jumps it takes much longer, but uses much less fuel. So you should be able to limp back to 'civilisation'. If not, there are rescue groups like the fuel rats that will come out with a can of petrol, for a modest fee.

Said I can fuel on the go lol

But I was worried about scoopable stars running short lol. Time to turn around lol. Thanx everyone

LOL. You set off to explore without a fuel scoop.

Did you NOT read the OP's post? Here's the part you missed before making your oh so smart remark. LOL

Eh, if you've got a scoop, and you're careful with how you plan your route, you can keep going indefinitely (well, until you have an accident with a fatal binary or a black hole). It's push your luck though - all that exploration data? If you blow up before you manage to dock and sell it, all of it is lost. So yeah, decide when you've risked enough and want to come home. And be seriously careful when you finally dock. You'll be rusty, heheh.

 an early xbox new user joining the forums! Welcome! (ignore all the naysayers)

Feel free to come back for more advice/ assistance, its definitely needed in this game.

I had over 200000 in discovery data last station I was at. I have found 4 water planets and a bunch of other gas giants and such since. But that was about the only reason I really wanted a station, to turn in the data.

That actually brings up another question. Do u get more for data the further away u take it to turn it in? Say 100ly instead of 20ly?

Nope - it's a fixed amount based on the value of what you scanned. You just need to be more than 20 Ly from where you scanned it to be able to sell it, so most of your exploration stuff will be instantly sellable the moment you dock.

I think it was a deliberate gameplay choice, so you didn't have explorers getting back to inhabited space and then ridiculously crossing the entirety of it to sell at the furthest station out on the other side to maximise profits.

This should help:
