no splash screen for gaining new rank?

I just checked my status panel and saw im already novice. Didnt even notice i leveled up.

In the original Elite there was a little Splash Screen whenever you gained a new rank. I found that very satisfying and its a small implementation.

Yep. Would be nice to get a notification. Maybe not in the middle of a dogfight but at least next time you dock somewhere.

I noticed that the rank up seems to be somewhat delayed. I delivered cargo and refilled, checked if that had tipped me to the next trading rank but it hadn't. Flew towards my next destination, checked again after a few jumps, but before docking and it had changed over.

Yeah it was a bit underwhelming hitting in Novice. I'm not even sure when it happened, only noticed when I went to the panel to check my cargo.

Has to go back to the Pilots Federation to be verified, voted for in committee, then signed in triplicate and filed at Hutton Terminal... and you know how long it takes to get there!!!
