No Squee from meeee

Rushed? Nothing could be further from the truth. This one of the hardest parts to get right. They've probably had a team working on it since long before Release. At least I would be astonished if they didn't.

Wasn't it said by FD that planetary landings would come in an expansion? Yes, and now it is coming with the first expansion.

Didn't they say they weren't going to change the surface of Pluto with the new footage because 1) several orbits and cycles of volatisation has been completed between 2015 and 3301 and 2) messing with the procedural generation of planets will not be done since "we want to land on the surfaces some day"?

The whole locking us away with Body Exclusion Zones (remember when we could set down on planets, sort of?) indicates the game structure has been set up to allow landings from the beginning.

When we can land, the universe will feel truly vast. This is what the game needs to feel less shallow (if it does). I'll squee for you too, then.

:D S

Wow. Just wow. It's like you actually believe they have only just started working on planetary landings. They must have completely forgotten to have that whole department working on it to release it in the roughly expected timescale they had indicated since back at the Kickstarter.

i have no idea on when they started working on planetary landings. frontier is not transparent on their schedules (again, just stating a fact, not implying they should be).

but i do know they have been pushing mac port, powerplay, xbone port and cqc as high priorities in the last half year or so. that's a solid amount of work, doesn't seem to leave room for much else. ofc that doesn't mean they couldn't have a couple of guys set apart for pl either. however, their first mention of it was just today. after about a couple of months of total silence. yeah, this is speculation. what were your facts again?

When you blindly make stuff up and call them pretty much facts is that very different from actual facts then?

yes, facts, not cs :)
please recheck and care to show which one i mentioned actually isn't.

How do you think they also manage to work on other games like Planet Coaster? They've been capable of handling multiple projects for 21 odd years.

I decided not to bother with him as he has made it abundantly clear... well actually everyone but him can see it, no need for me to expand!

Planetary landings were first mentioned in the Kickstarter campaign, at the end of 2012; in particular, they made it clear that they would not be part of the first release, because it would take time to do properly :). Later on, they said that thy would release it in stages, with airless planets being the first step. This seems to be a good strategy that they have thought about for a long time

FD doing what it is used to.

SC made Space sims trendy again. FD piggy backed on their hype. They sold a Promise. And then delivered a something crappy.

EVE - Valkyrie: Space dogfight is coming! FD "cames" up with its arena shooter.

NMS hyped planetary landings. FD figured it is a high time to promise planetary landing, too. Plus they are trying to secure sales before NMS hits the market and, all of a sudden, they are not the only modernish space game around.

ED is about as original as the guys who set these development paths.
Elite dangerous has been in the works under the name Elite IV long before star citizen was even an idea...
No mans sky is babies first space game

Elite made the space genre and by far elite is and with 90% chance of remaining the best of the best

yes. in particular, it was clear it was the last feature mentioned.

and there was absolutely no mention of anything resembling powerplay or cqc.

seriously, dudes, you all seem so picky about any criticism, however reasonable. get it straight: i love the game, i consider this a piece of art. i'm grateful for the folks who made it. but i also know how million dollar companies work and am mature enough to filter out obvious pr-bull. and i can also imagine what it would be if it weren't for that. not that difficult, just saying.

the last X3 game ruined the whole series for me,To me it was a very poor way to implament life and content into the game,The worst aspect was traveling in the space lanes it felt like i was in a space car, traveling on space motor way ,there was on sense of the enormity of space,If this is the kind of thing people want in ED they you can keep it,its utter rubbish

We are flying Space Ships not Space cars,That how it should feel a tiny vessel in a vast ocean of space

I honestly don't think the decisions have been as reactive as you seem to think, but I concede that NMS may have helped decide between planetary landings and leaving the cockpit as the basis of the first expansion. It's worth remembering that Kickstarter UK only launched in November 2012, and the ED campaign was one of the very first; the ED Kickstarter might well have predated the SC one if it were possible earlier. However, it's worth noting that Chris Roberts was a vocal supporter of ED, and encouraged a significant number of SC backers to pledge for ED.

At Lavecon, FD have said that they have a ten year plan for releasing content for ED, and it has to be supported somehow; I think the yearly season idea is a good one. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed that FD brought in completely new features like powerplay before many of the wonderful things discussed in the DDF (I was an active member); however, this financial plan seems like a good bet for realizing as much as possible over time.

A ten year plan? Woohoo. This only reinforces my decision not to buy a lifetime expansion pass. It does have to have money to support it and I'll be happy to do my part and pay for the yearly expansion packs. Because I know that as much as Mr. Braben and the developers love the game, it can't be done without money. They have to eat and pay not only their own personal bills, but Frontier has to pay property tax, internet connectivity fees, etc etc etc.
