General / Off-Topic No Time To Die (no spoilers)

So I've seen the new Bond film. Wow, I didn't see that ending coming, though it is kind of foreshadowed. What can I say without giving any spoilers. I thoroughly enjoyed it thought that ending was a big emotional hit. The cinematography is beautiful, the soundtrack sublime, the action is great. The plot ties up all the loose ends from Spectre and is a fitting end to the story arc of Daniel Craig's Bond.

There are call backs to previous Bond films most noticeably On Her Majesty's Secret Service. There are more gadgets than in previous Daniel Craig films and even a few dry quips reminiscent of Connery or Moore. Daniel Craig seems happier and more relaxed than he was in Spectre. It's almost as if having the 'burden' of being Bond lifted from him allowed him to have fun while giving the public what they wanted. At it's heart it is also an epic love story, but hey it's Bond, you know there isn't going to be a 'happily ever after'.

The locations are evocative, the ancient city of Matera, Jamaica, Cuba, London, Norway and an island based villian's lair that could have been made by Ken Adam.

To those worried that the franchise has gone 'woke' with a female 007, honestly it hasn't. You were played by a social media campaign. Bond is front and centre throughout the film and 'minor spoiler' is reinstated as 007. Honestly Lashana Lynch is if anything under used.

Is it perfect? No. It maybe runs a little too long and could be tightened up in the middle a touch. The plot may be a little far fetched. and I can't say I really understood the motives of the big bad. Having said that, it rips along at a fair pace and gives you everything you would expect from a Bond film up until the end when it pulls an amazingly bold move. It kind of left the audience shell shocked. It is a fitting swan song for the Daniel Craig era but it has raised the bar for the next guy.

I would recommend seeing it on the big screen.

I went to see this yesterday, I’m always wary of +2hr films because they can be filled out with fluff but I found this to be an enjoyable couple of hours.
Its also a good introduction to the direction 007 will take, which will no doubt get some of the ‘purists’ hot under the collar
