The first time I was jumped by another played in Open (and CG systems are always going to be high traffic) I was at the rebuy screen mere seconds after submitting to the interdiction, which is either disheartening or hilarious depending on how you look at it. A dedicated gank ship is probably set up to melt a target before they can escape or, more depressingly, before the 15 second menu log. If you check your comms panel it should have a record of live players encountered and who killed you, and if you send them a friendly message they’ll often be happy to help you with you build or evasion, and with a little practice you’ll find yourself getting more proficient at evasion and escape (otherwise known as squealing like a stuck pig and thrashing the controller around wildly in a panic if you’re me!).
Ganking can either be an adventure or an annoyance depending on how you look at it, if it’s not the gameplay you’re looking for there’s no shame in flying in Solo or PG, it’s what they’re there for. I haven’t done a CG for a while but I normally do a session or two at them in Open as a concession to the ‘living galaxy’ and for a little spice, then drop down into Solo so I can play more or less uninterrupted by invitations to PvP that’s not really my thing.
