Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Just one of these oddities --

Exploring systems a few hundred lightyears from inhabited space you're quite used to the odd Sidewinder, Eagle or Ananconda making a sparse living there in those anarchy systems. Sometimes even stopping by to say Hi.

Just now I found an earth-like planet in a system completely devoid of any such ships, so I flew a little closer dropped out of Supercruise and enjoyed the scenery. Took the time for a RL bio, too. When I came back, I noticed a FSD wake cloud, and my Comms Panel said, "<System Authority Vessel> Submit to authority crime scan, Commander!"

Next time I see that happen I'll attack them, just to see who is going to ... put me on the Comfy Chair for that.

Yeah I had 2 security ships drop in on me while I was fighting 2 pirates, one scanned me and I almost soiled myself(!) had a full cargo (36) of stolen stuff I gathered in that system... Lucky they didn't fine me or anything (had a 20k fine for having 5 ancient artifacts, horrified to think what 36 are worth!). Was still weird to see them there. System authority?! you have none here!

In an uncolonised system, nothing is illegal.

Ergo:

"Ello ello ello, what's all this then? Empty cargo bays? Carrying nothing are we? I'll have to book you for that!"

"What do we have here, then? Toxic waste, slaves, fine art, secret plans, prototypes, battle weapons, ancient artifacts? You're completely filled to the gunwales with salvaged loot. Everything seems to be in order, carry on pilot."

Actually, I am going to try that out. Pick up some stolen stuff there, just one canister and see *IF* I get fined for that, and, more interestingly, to whom I should mail-order the money from there.

I'll repost if I find anything.

I noticed that a lot of times Authority scans in deep space or in combat are not cargo scans, but are KW scans.

Haven't been caught from scans in deep space for smuggling, it is always at the station.

Why does everyone pick on the poor Spanish? The Portuguese, the English, and the French all burned their share of Heretics too! ;)

(Before I get nailed down for picking on the Spanish - the title is of course a reference joke to the infamous Monty Python sketch. Trust me, they picked on the spanish as much as on the Portugese, the english and, most delightedly, the french.)
