Non-gameplay things you'd like to see

Inspired by something mentioned on Reddit this morning I thought I'd ask the question - "What non-gameplay features would you like to see in Elite: Dangerous" - that is features that add to the richness of the galaxy but don't have an effect on your game.

For me - workers outside the stations, fixing all the dents and dings cause by bad pilots, kind of like...

One thing I'd like to see is the commodities that we buy.

I'm still in my babystep-Sidewinder phase - but just thought it would be cool to see some men/robots load 4 tonnes of grains, or clothing, or liquor into your ship.

Purely as visual aesthetic plus some game immersion in there too. It would just make your cargo feel a tiny bit more precious. Plus, at this point in time, you can buy literally tonnes of fish or grain or computer parts or aluminium - and once you've paid you can take off in a matter of seconds, but some how all that cargo appeared in your hold?

To get a better sense of scale (my spaceship), i'd like some generic npc walking about in the background on the landing pad.

A pub.

Like as in when you are in station and you bring up the different options like black market/repair etc but when you click on pub it brings up another 3d environment screen that's not your cockpit and inside we have a localized text chat plus a screen to see who's inside so we can actually chat to people without worrying about flying.

(yeah i know maybe a bit much, but would be nice at least until we can walk about on stations.):D

I'd like to see more life in and around the stations. People moving about inside the docking bays, big cruisers or cargo ships parked up outside with smaller ships coming and going from ship to station.

In space I'd like to see comets.

I would like to see the odd body part banging against your hull. You could have a arm get stuck under your windscreen wipers, flopping back and too, like it was waving at you.

I would like to see Orbital Shuttles and IP-Transporters ferrying cargo and passengers between the station and the surface (in systems where the surface is populated)

Having your cockpit gradually fill up with empty crisp packets, guide brochures to places you don't remember going and old mix tapes missing their track listings.

A news service like FFE's journals. That should be coming as it's in the DDA. Persistent NPCs and NPCs pursuing an agenda, samewise.

I'd like to see more named planets. Far more. Far, far, far more. You've got people living in a system they're going to name every big chunk of rock. I expect there's a lot to change before the final release though.

I'd quite like to see flavour text on the various bits of weapons and equipment, possibly with accompanying slight model changes or skins. This is a Lance & Ferman military laser, that's an Ingram pulse, whatever.

The control towers at the landing pads, would be cool to be able to see people at the windows.

Traffic between the planets and the stations in orbit around them.

Ships (capital ships) too large for landing inside a station, 'anchored/docked outside station and possibly ferries going in between.

Bring back the smudges on the cockpit windows (dont know if thats realistic though).

^This :) would imagine it wouldn't be that hard to implement either. Game would definitely benefit from a social aspect imo

Would also like a ship computer to keep track of where I have been and what I have sold where - if we have the technology to scoot round the universe surely we can finally bin the A4 :D

I assume the "pub" - or pilots bar, will be something FD would be interested in implementing it for an expansion pack - when we have the ability to leave our ships and walk around stations.

I like the idea of having your ship loaded with the cargo - but I imagine many many won't, as they like the dock, unload, load, undock cycle, and won't want to wait a few seconds for this to happen.

I guess the same can be said for repairing ships and refuelling - would you add a time where you sit around waiting to get repaired. Might also be the case that you have to wait and book your ship in for repair, as the engineers are busy - you have to sit in the waiting room reading a 4 year old magazine while the spanner monkeys get to work :)
