Can anyone give me some advice on where or what type of star system I should be looking at to find non lethal or personal weapons to complete rank progression missions, never come across any anywhere I have visited as yet, I'm around spurs at Beckman terminal, cheers cmndr's in advance

Check out high tech systems. You can filter the galaxy map to show stars by colour according to economy type, and find high tech that way. They usually have a good supply of commodities in that category.
With weapons, you will want to check that they are not prohibited in the systems where you're taking them, otherwise the authorities will fine or shoot you if you're scanned there.

I've found by scrolling to the entry, and clicking on it, in a stations Commodities Market, you can see on the right hand side where (ie what system) they import the item from (not everyone will have entries, but most do). So all you need to do is run a quick search to find the closest one and off you go! I was getting a bit fed up manually looking for high tech stations/systems and this worked for me yesterday. Be careful when carrying them though, as they are generally prohibited.
