Non-productive time in Elite

I think the game would be much more fun if we could get rid of the non-productive time like extended SC travel, the cumbersume planet approach with orbit-glide etc. The slow speed in normal space. And many other time consuming things that dont add anything to the gameplay except to make it boring.

But Imurrrrrshon!:D Seriously, without that, it would be just point and click. I would think that would be boring. See, that's the problem with these young whippersnappers, want everything right away, microwaved. When I was your age, I had to glide uphill, both ways, barefoot, with no Remlock and I appreciated it!

You forgot to put the proposal/solution/demand in, it's just a list of things you don't like with an "if" at the front.
 
I think the game would be much less fun if it was reduced to a collection of rooms where you do one activity, then immediately transition to another room where you perform a different activity. I would find that kind of 'gameplay' extremely boring.

It's almost like 'boring' is subjective.

It wouldn't be the same game if we were to immediately pop here and there at will. The time sink in SC gives a little depth to the game. Otherwise, why play it? I think the game would have had a very short lifespan if that kind of thing was implemented. It would be just another clickfest among others.

If you treat ED like a job and productivity is all that matters... then yes.

So, what constitutes gameplay to you. Is it menu hopping at stations? Personally I like flying my ships in supercruise and in normal space. I don't care how productive I am, as long as I am having fun.

Nothing wrong with time sinks, as long as you enjoy them.

is that not what signal sources, combat zones, resource sites etc. are?

I absolutely disagree on every single point. Things taking their sweet time is what makes space travel seem real and awesome. The game compromises enough already and I rather have more space sim features than more shortcuts like those we already have.
Elite is not arcade and should never go arcade. There are enough games already which give you instant action.
