Non-wanted; Attacked in HAZ RES by Sys Authority

Hey all, I've encountered an annoying bug today. I've been mining at the CG HAZ RES, and occasionally things get crazy. Nearly a dozen pirates will want my cargo. I'll be defending myself, until I realize that the system authority vessels have shown up, and are attacking me!

Both times this has happened, I've been in a wing with other commanders present. Both times, I am not Wanted when the cops attack me.

Any ideas? What usually makes sys authority drop into the HAZ RES in the first place?

Have I discovered the evil truth about Sirius Inc and their dirty ways?

Could be because one of your wing mates has become wanted. Then you are guilty by association.

Happens in others instances as well.

In general, when your wingmate or SLF pilot attacks a clean ship it will make security attack you even if you are not wanted. You need to leave an re-enter the instance.

But I have no idea how security ships would get itno a haz res, I have not seen that for quite some time.

My Wing Mate was doing this all the time, constantly shooting the wrong ships. However, when he shot the wrong NPC, I would also get the "Wanted" tag appear. If you're not seeing the "Wanted" tag yourself, then something else is happening.

Note: my friend and I have experienced numerous false "Wanted" incidents, when we've not attacked anything that wasn't wanted. One time, we found this Wanted Clipper just sat there. We chatted over voice comms discussing whether we could take it on and, as a group of Security Ships were near-by, we thought we could - being able to flee towards the local Security Forces if things went wrong. However, the very first hit I landed on the Clipper - a ship we'd both scanned as wanted remember - caused US to be insta-wanted and ALL the Security ships made us public enemy Number one.

So, perhaps you did nothing to legitimately cause this issue, but it was caused by a bug. It's very odd the local forces would attack you if you've not got that big red "Wanted" on your HUD.

Scoob.

It can also be that one, or both of you has a dormant bounty. Get scanned with a dormant bounty in the system where you got it, the results are always the same.

Oh, and make sure "report crimes against me" is switched on.

It does what it says on the tin when switched on, anyone can fire on you when it's switched off and no Crime will be reported. With no crime reported your attackers will stay clean, attacking a clean ship results in system security coming after you.

In addition to all the previous great advice... While the OP didn't mention it, if you are pledged to a power in Power Play and venture into a hostile system, you can be attacked by the local authorities based solely on your Power Play allegiance.

Nope, not pledged right now.

Does anyone know what usually triggers the local cops to drop into a HAZ RES?

Or a PP ship tries to pirate you and you get Wanted status when you return fire.

They were definitely system authority. I've not seen many PP ships at all in this CG.

Validate wingmates aren't being indiscriminate with friendly fire, should you be in a wing. Honestly? I'd only wing up with other miners; there's zero point in having others a wing whilst you are mining, unless they are doing the same thing. All it takes is an itchy trigger finger and suddenly you'll be accosted by constables.

The trigger for wanted is a very short list; unsanctioned kill is about the most common. If you have turrets, make sure they are not set to fire-at-will as anything that commences an attack will be fired upon, regardless of it's wanted status.

Also check you have report crimes on; if it's off, a ship that attacks you, won't automatically be tagged as 'wanted' and shooting it will trigger a crime (and wanted status).

Then likely it's an artifact of being in a wing that is potentially engaged in combat and someone has triggered a crime. The only other trigger may be a powerplay ship that has identified you as hostile and has engaged (under the appropriate rules of powerplay), or your faction reputation has been tanked against a minor faction to the point that they are automatically hostile.

There are very limited ways this can happen; either it's due to crime, a valid powerplay action, or reputation has dropped to hostile with a faction. Anything else, would be a bug.

Hi Op,

One last one, are either you ro your wingman gostile to the controlling faction of the system?
Other than that just about every possinility has been suggested, including bug.

Thanks
Simon

I'll check my standings with the local factions when I'm back in game. I have been bounty hunting, so some don't like me.

It's probably related to a crime committed by a wingmate.

Still, anyone know what makes system authority drop into a HAZ RES in the first place? They certainly weren't there at the beginning of the fight. Do they drop in if you're far enough away from the site's center, >20km?

Maybe we:
1)Drifted away from the RES site far enough
2)Attacking pirates incurred a bounty, triggering system security response
3)Wingmate scanned for bounty, turning them hostile against entire wing?

I wonder why even there are sys authority ships in haz res when they dont go after pirates...
Watch out for suicidal authority NPC's.
Once upon entering haz res in my corvette, 3 ships started scanning me right away (very usual scenario upon entering haz res). In this case I stop my ship to scan them if they are pirates I anihilate them if authority I leave. It was authority ship and this crazy NPC boosted rammed my corvette, NPC survived with 50% hull. After couple of seconds it did it again and poof... I was wanted. Soon enough I got 5 on my tail needed to run away from rez.

1)Drifted away from the RES site far enough

I think that's worth a test and it's easy. Go in haz res with a fast ship, boost away, log off, log back and boost back to res and watch when appears the authority system offline or what message. Log off first, because I newer saw the same massage but with going online, so maybe it's non existent, and the blocking is only 20-30 km radius sphere. Just a thought.

Btw if i had to guess, it was a glitch. The winging and the P2P connections was always perfect and glitch free in ED. Nobody saw ewer a single bug during wing up especially in high populated CG systems, so...
