Once commanders could get messages hidden in the communications from satellites and from the Thargoid base ships.
Then nothing. No oids (Thargs or hemars) at all. Just burning stations that no one seemed eager or willing to repair, which where left to smoulder and crackle and burn while it's crew, if present, screamed and yelled for help which would not come.
'Too busy hoardin' metal' one dysfunctional commander was reported to explain to an overpaid and underworked Galnet reporter at one burning station. 'Came here to sell, damned Empire, blame them for shuttin down the markets.'
The commander had the smell of painite on his worn flightsuit, which was quite outdated as far as any fashionable critic would care to comment on, if at all.
