Noob explorer questions...

Hi all,

Whilst I've been playing ED since Beta, I've not spent a great deal of time/effort actually exploring until recently.

I have a couple of questions, and if people can point me at the latest relevent thread/resources, I'd sure appreciate it...

1) In Horizons, how best to plot a route towards a specific point AWAY from the bubble.
Context: I'm wanting to progress directly out through the Sanguinious Rim (?) into the middle of the arm somewhere then follow the arm CCL.

2) In Odyssey, can someone point me at a tutorial on how to use the system and Galaxy maps now they've changed?

3) In EDMC, I have the Canonn plugin installed and I notice that, when in a system, I get a message in EDMC to go scan some bodies etc...I went and scanned (mapped) the planet and landed and visited the shards etc, however the message persists, so I'm guessing I've not done something correctly. Again, if someone could point me at the latest and most relevent resource for this please.

Many thanks

I used to use the cannon plugin but I was never sure if it was being updated as I had the same issue, I use EDDiscovery with the Cannon plugin and Elite Obervatory, together these are very useful, Elite Observatory using Mattg's plugins tells you everything you need to know and do in a system.

To my knowledge the plugin updates at regular intervals (once a day maybe?) but not in real time. So even though you won't see that prompt go away, the scans are in fact logged

Hi, Clicker!
1. The direct route may not take place. There may be closed sectors along the way: Horsehead Dark Region, Col 70 ... etc. Better to bypass them. It is better to plot the route in stages.
2. I do not know. I don't use Odyssey.
3. I'm also worried about this question. It seems that my data is not reaching Canonn. Or they are not processing it. But that's better to discuss with Canonn.

You data is definitely reaching Canonn. It is also making it to the sheets. While I did get EDD to work with the console, and both of our scans are reaching alerts. I see yours are making it to the sheets while mine are not. It is my understanding that bug is known. But after seeing last night that BT POI can be found on bodies with atmosphere, my days of being on the console are numbered.

Grinding again is going to be, to put mildly, 'not fun'

Aha! I saw. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies...

What I'm hoping to learn is how to effectively plot a multi-thousand ly route via the Galaxy Map without knowing any destination systems...that is, just want to get into middle of Sanguinious Rim somewhere and stay relatively on the galactic plane.

I'll give some generalized advice.

-You will have to pick somewhere to go to tell the router to go to. You can break the journey into smaller chunks by choosing intermediary destinations that look interesting (POIs, DSSA carriers, deep space outposts, codex biologicals, etc.). EDSM and EDAstro are resources I like to use for this. Alternatively, you can just zoom out in the Galmap and move to the rough general area you want to go, zoom in, and pick a system at random. You can plot routes up to 20k light-years using the "fast routing" option.

-Always remember KGBFOAM. These are the classes of stars you're able to fuel scoop from. If you want to never have to think about it, you can go into the Galmap filters and tell it to only plot routes through these classes of stars. If you want to see every class of star, keep a close eye on your fuel.

-I actually wouldn't recommend staying in the galactic plane if you're out for undiscovered systems. Granted, if you go far enough out it won't matter, but first setting out from the Bubble I usually like going ~500 lys up or down to kick things off. Most people stay in the plane and if you leave the plane then you start seeing undiscovered systems nearer the bubble.

-The route plotter can misbehave if your criteria are too restrictive, the stars are too sparse, or you try plotting through permit-locked areas. If the router refuses to work, either adjust your filters to add more star classes or try plotting a shorter route.

Oh and I'd also always encourage folks to pop into an Discord community. I can't speak for all of them, but I at least know that in the ones I've interacted with (Fleetcomm and Canonn), people tend to be welcoming and will trip over each other to answer questions.

In Galaxy Map:
zoom way out
move the cursor to the area you want to go to
zoom in
pick random star & plot route

@Zieman,

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that.
I suspect that because I've not previously explored too much, I probably do not have ALL the Galaxy Map navigation keys bound.
This meant I have limited control over the scroll and zoom functions.

I'll check and fix this next time I'm in.

Cheers

If I remember correctly (I'm not in the game ATM), you should be able to see your key binds controlling the map on the bottom of the screen while in the Galaxy map mode...

The recommendation Zieman gave you is exactly what you are looking for...

In Odyssey, there is one good tip for you: once you find the place where you want to go, why not pick some nice system? zoom into your desired spot close enough to see the names of the systems... Then enter the name of the system in the search bar, without entering the system codes (for example PLOBEA AIM xx-x yyy - so only enter PLOBEA AIM), then you will get a list of all systems of this name, from the heaviest to the lightest. You can start clicking on them one by one and pick the one that shows the best combination of stars that you are looking for ( like BLACKHOLE, BLACKHOLE, B0, O0). The stars in each particular system will be displayed at the bottom of the infobox on the right side...

This only works in Odyssey...
