Noob outfitting question

Like a noob, I accepted a mission that asked me to go fetch Auto fabricators for 30k credits. That's a lot to a noob, and I thought, 'I can afford 4 of those!'

The nearest station that had them was only 19 ly away. Unfortunately, it requires longer jumps than I can make. 'No problem,' I thought, 'I'll go remove stuff I don't need for this run!' Like shields and weapons.

I'm still on my sidewinder so everything is loaned, but I don't see how to just remove something: only swap it with something else. Is this possible? If you remove/swap modules, do they sort of float along with you through the galaxy, or do you have to sell them at the station where you remove them?

Is what I want to do possible, or is there a better way of increasing jump range?

To answer my own question: It looks like you can just sell loaned stuff for 0cr and buy them back for 0cr. Was able to get the range I needed by stripping out lasers, shields, and upgrading my fsd.

I assume you can't 'store' modules you don't want installed anywhere; they're either on a ship or you've converted them to cash.

1st, check your theoretical jump range (Outfiting menu).
If it is enough, then check your max range with full cargo.
If it is only small diffence from your repuirement, then go sell your equip, but ... your starter max laden Sidewinder have max Jump range around 5-6 LY, it is not much.

I reccommend discard this misson and focus to more easier quests. Do not hurry, or you loose more than you gain.

If you are still on start and made fail (no credits, no equip :D), you can Clear your save and Restart your carrier with new knowledge ;).

Stripping out unnecessary stuff can make it easy to travel to Sol for example if you want to do that. I was able to get to Sol in a Sidewinder by adjusting my loadout.
