Newcomer / Intro [noob] Pirate Hunting

I tried courier missions for a while but they are pretty frustrating and not so convenient. Now I'm trying to go for pirate hunting because I noticed you can do a lot of money (when the police don't steal your kill, they really need to change this mechanic...). I'm in the middle of a pirate hunting mission and I managed to kill 2 pirates in USS. The problem is: I don't find USS any more. Where do I have to search for them? Near the stars?

From what I understand, you basically have to be in frameshift / super cruising, and they'll pop up... randomly.

I usually fly near the sun so I can scoop in between while waiting for USS to pop up.

I have been trying to find pirates lately too and I found that hanging out in supercruise at minimum speed was the easiest. When the USS pop up you are usually facing them and less than 1000km from them so you can drop out straight away and start blasting.

Just be careful because if you are interdicted with zero throttle you will submit after a few seconds, remember to throttle up if you're going to try and escape. Alternatively you might like to try and kill the pirate interdicting you in which case that is also another advantage of this method (-:

Do what curses says. Just go into supercruise and look at your navigation panel while traveling at 30km/s. When a USS pops up, just select it and enter at your leisure. If there's nothing there you want to do, simply go back into FSD and repeat. You can also pop in and out of asteroid clusters and mineral extraction sites over and over again. The pirates that interdict me and anyone I interdict haven't counted for me towards the kill missions, even if they are of a pirate faction and make demands. The only kills I have found that count are in the instances. Also, sometimes you can get a bad and long run of the RNG and won't find pirates in the USS's. Just keep at it, they will show up eventually. If they run up to you and scan you and they aren't federal, chances are they are a pirate. Just kill warrant scan them for extra money. ;)

Good advices, also if the system has extration zones, or home beacons, there are a good point too for finding pirats without making continous jumps (and hunting at asteroid fields is more challenging), but remember, not all wanted ships are pirates, they usually leaves you a menacing message, and check out the security vessel's faction first to avoid shooting any wanted ship that belonges to that faction.

This is the only think I miss from the original Elite. In that you could just go anywhere and a pirate would just show up and you could just simply kick his butt, but in this I have just had 2 pirates in 48 hours. Even when I look for them nothing comes of it. I have done exactly what you have stated and only found noob ships milling around doing just the same as me, looking for action. I think there needs to be a little tune up of the pirates system so more attacks happen.

I may be doing something wrong but they just do not want to attack me

I've always thought that those 'kill the pirate' missions are rather a waste of effort, unless your going after the single ship 100k+ ones. You're better off getting yourself to a system with a resource extraction site and a nearby station and bounty hunting in there. You can easily make 50k per visit before having to restock munitions (if you use cannons etc.). This way you don't have to go chasing pirates.

The only benefit I see is a raising of reputation.

Very useful information thanks. I managed to find my 5 pirates and get a lot of money (I bought a viper!), now the problem is "hunt bounty hunters" ahah. I went in the system and just tried to kill a clean near a wanted, I barely got out in one peace and I was fined. So... how does it work with bounty hunters?
