noob player -- abandon ship?

o7 My fellow Commanders.
I'm in somewhat of a pickle.

TL;DR - i fried my supercruise assist module, among others, after weirdly not engaging
How do I reach a docking station without super cruise?

I recently bought Elite Dangerous 2 days ago and I put in 12 hours. I love it a lot.
Yesterday I bought Horizons DLC to play with my friend who has the Anaconda. Lots of nicki minaj memes.
I was atCoelo station, Metat picking up some supplies that needed to go to 1-2 destinations in Dromi.
After hyperdrive travel, I arrive to the very distinctive big ball of fire Dromi. Usually I just put on supercruise assist and I'll be at Mawson Dock, Dromi.
Supercruise usually worked (like it did tens of times yesterday.) Method of frying was attempting to reach Mawson Dock behind the Dromi star of flame. Supercruise usually did it with no problems. But today, supercruise never engages, heat levels shoot up on my ship, and each time supercrusie is active, it always offshoots. Im stuck hyperdriving star-system to star-system. I have like 3/4 fuel but multiple modules are fried.

Now Mawson Dock was a little bit on the other side of this big ball of fire and since supercruise did not say anything was obscured, I thought it was just another engagement of supercruise.
NOOOOOO it was not.
As soon as I'm charged up, I'm flying towards this big ball of fire and my heat sensors are like 220%. I emergency disengage, probably should've done it much sooner, and I fly upwards.
I try again but temperatures are still going critical and I barely manage to escape using Hyperdrive. It did say I needed to align with escape velocity.

I fly back to Metat and shrug it off. I still need to deliver my shipments of tea and uranium and whatnot. I chart a course for Dromi, then I look for mawson dock and supercruise works : D
Then for some reason, as I dont remember changing my throttle, i never got the notification that supercruise assist was active.
More heat damage, and now my supercruise module is at 4%. I have no supercruise capability and honestly wonder how my Hauler with a top speed of 120 is going to land anywhere.
I recently learned of a fuel scoop but have not equipped it.

I did want to start over but I made like 400k in my first day and would sting a bit to just reset.
Also, how was life like before Supercruise? Surely this wasn't the case all the time.
I appreciate any help o7 o7 o7

......... I have no supercruise capability ...........
.............

Your supercruise assist module is only there to ASSIST you to handle supercruise. Just control your speed in supercruise with your throttle - move it to the middle of the blue zone when your ttg goes below 0:10 (but before it gets to 0:06) - your speed will be controlled up to the "safe to disengage" message.

Learn to do without the SCA and you can use that slot for something useful. ;)

Simple things: Never try fly through any objects. Especially stars. And how to fly without supercruise assist? Well it usually easy to see if your route is unblocked. Throw your throttle to full, put your ship to point your target fly full speed untill time remaining counter drops at minimum 6 seconds remainin. Putt throttle back until throttle indicator is in blue zone. Exit sc when it tells you to do so.

Ok, calm down. Really.

You will make those 400 k back in no time at all - at the beginning, it's all about learning the ropes, and you won't reset your knowledge.
Next: which module are you talking about? Your ship has two propulsion systems, the thrusters (main engines) and the FSD (frame shift drive), responsible for supercruise (within a system) and hyperjumps (between systems). That is all you really need. IIRC the starter ship also comes with a supercruise assist module, which is basically unnecessary - it steers your ship in supercuise and adjusts the throttle, or so I've been told - I never used one. You can steer your ship manually (and that includes avoiding to fly into anything too hot or solid), and you can adjust your throttle manually.
Just go to your left side HUD, navigation ttab, and select the nearest space station. Then throttle up and trigger supercruise. Once in SC, fly around any obstacles towards your destination. Like @Para Handy said, keep an eye on the ETA indicator. Before that time counts down to 0:06, reduce your throttle to 75% (middle of the blue), then disengage supercruise when you are prompted to do so (blue popup over your radar). This will drop you at 10...7 km from the station. Fly towards the station entrance, and at less than 7.5 km distance, request docking. Dock at your assigned pad and repair your ship.
