Noob query #3

Hi I know this is a fairly simple question, but what exactly does a heat sink do & how does it work, I know it draws heat but is it drawing heat from my weapons or the enemies ?? Sorry but Iam one of those people who need all the details & cannot seem to find a adequate explanation in the forms or in the manual. Thanks in advance for any info or advice.

It dumps heat generated by your own ship.

it dumbs weapon heat too, but it only has a very short effect.

It dumps all your system heat you have at this point. This allows you to continue to do silent run, AND you can give your enemy false positive target, thus confusing it's gimbaled weapons and heat seeking rockets.

From I understand the heat sink is just a heat sink, absorbing heat. A heat sink launcher is used to launch a hot heat sink as a counter measure for a heat seeking missle (presuming you have a spare). If you have a launcher you can buy spare heat sinks.
