Noob question about data storage

Hi everyone. I'm brand new to Elite and keen to join the exploration fraternity. I've spent my time building up enough credits for the basic hauler set up but before I launch into the big black, I had one question. I assume I'm overlooking something obvious, so feel free to point that out. Is there anyway to review or know how much and what kind of data you have collected while you are out on the road? I know everything gets tallied up when you sell it, but I'm assuming there should be some way of looking at your onboard databank and seeing what you've collected to that point.

You get basic 'number of systems visited' and 'level 2' and 'level 3' scans done, but that's it.

There's no log (as far as I know) you can peruse of where you have been. You can, of course, make your own.

I would like to tell OP that, when you sell data in a station you can read it all, but after you have sold it, it will be gone and not accesible any more.
The only ingame thing that register your exploration data is Galactic Map. After having visited a system, that system map will be available to open everywhere.
But if you didn't note down the name of the systems of your interest, it will be really difficult if not impossible to find it manually in the 400bazillion star map.
So long story short: if you are interested in collecting data, and keep track of your exploration, note down the name of systems of your interest.

I would just like to whisper that one day, an ingame data log, would be soooo much appreciated.

Ah, thanks for the quick responses all. I'm guessing that this then is probably already on the Explorer wishlist. After all, it seems odd we have frameshift drives that can lock onto the gravity wells of distant stars but we not even the onboard equivalent of a PDA. Technology in the future isn't quite what I imagined it would be! Maybe the pen and paper requirement is a homage to the original Elite? I'll have to break out my wireframe notebook. :)

Thanks for the links to the 3rd party stuff, I had overlooked those so I will take a look.
