NOoooooooo! death by falling skimmer

I dont believe it. I have finally succumbed to death by falling skimmer. You never see the one that kills you.

Thats a 46,087,969 rebuy
Thats the loss of 2,400,000 in bounties yet to claim.
Thats over 4,000,000 in exploration lost.

Yes I have raised a ticket.

This is just plain irritating and has firmly put my dander up, and jeopardizes anyone that wants to land on a planetary base.

Not happy.

Yep,

Since I started playing again I've been deliberately finishing my glides short of a surface outpost and then creeping up to them slowly.

Forgot to do that for the first time last night and a skimmer whizzed past the nose of my Python so close that I could count the nuts & bolts holding it together.
Certainly gets your attention.

I'm sure it will be fixed in 2.4 and there will probably be an announcement about that in a month's time at Gamescom with a release date likely to be the end of September.

It's only like we're going to have players swallowing rebuys and losing exploration data for three months after the update that broke skimmers, plus new players on an entirely new platform not having a clue what has happened to them when they die and thinking the game is a bug-riddled disaster based on their early impressions, what's the hurry?

Yeah, since reading about this one I glide in over 8k out of the station, and keep my height up. Scoot up to 7.4xk and stop and sit. I usually watch with the external camera zoomed in. If I see things moving it is probably okay to head in. I have seen them bounce. Just wait it out before heading in. Dear Fdev, please turn off the raining skimmer bombs from spawning until you get this mess sorted out. Just turn them off! Please. Thank you.

I did some more testing and they seem to spawn persistently when entering the NoFire Zone.

Haven't docked in a while, but quickly triggering the NFZ and then ensuring a safe distance will be my plan. Works like a charm.
My Approach will now always be to the side or short of of any Planetary Base, that allows for a fairly quick Skimmer spawn-trigger after which I can safely land.

PS.
I'll still be looking up all the time thou... Paranoia is justified after all ;)

I had one narrowly miss the nose of my Python when I came in to dock a bit too steep.
That certainly woke me up!

FD either need to fix this bug ASAP.
Or until then, disable the shield and thrusters loss, so we can atleast attempt to make a quick exit.

Until then, aim drop out of glide 7km~ from the base, then move in slowly until you see then all 'settle'.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I've managed to avoid this so far.... :) Sounds super annoying, though!

Myself as well, despite being forced to deliver to a planetary base over a dozen times for a PowerPlay fortification session. I was flying my VERY expensive Cutter, and was just waiting for the inevitable to happen, yet for some bizarre reason, it never did. Several of my fellow AD commanders were not so lucky and lost their ships along with their fortification cargo. :(

I frankly don't understand why Frontier has allowed this incredibly destructive bug to go un-patched week after frustrating week? At least they are taking care of everyone who submits a ticket about this, and restores their lost CR and cargo.

Skimmers don't fly over landing pads, so i try to come out of glide above the base, then move so that i'm directly over my assigned pad. Sometimes i see skimmers land just as i'm touching down. I mainly fly to low G planets tho'.

I also don't understand why this wasn't quickly patched.

I missed this bug, what's happening? Are skimmers spawning above bases and falling atop landing ships, thereby obliterating their shields because FD decided that touching skimmers should be a death sentence?

Hope this doesn't happen to me. I had invisible walls kill me one time in my trading Cutter full of cargo. I was pretty salty about that but I was at least reimbursed thanks to FD support.

Top people those are!

The skimmer bugs have been around since skimmers. The planet side experience has been so degraded by them when exploring. You can go hundreds of lyrs away from the bubble and find packs of them guarding junk in the middle of nowhere. [blah]

FDev has confirmed the bug and listed it as to be resolved for 2.4. In the meanwhile, open a ticket if it happens to you. They will not just reimburse you, but restore your ship (and NPC crew). However, that might take a few days - due to the volume of Harakiri-Skimmer victims, I assume. In any case, support appears toe be very busy these days...

Back when I first found out about it, I'd docked at the surface base in Magellan the night before in an exploration Anaconda with 0% ship integrity, a class 4 shield and 75m credits of exploration data on board. It's by nothing more than blind luck that I didn't get hit by one and if I had, the skimmer alone would have totalled that ship without even needing the base to get involved. I know support are as usual being very good about sorting rebuys out but unless something has changed, a player in my situation would have lost the exploration data (and first discoveries, of which there were many) forever.

Considering the risk level, I'm really shocked that it hasn't had either a hotfix or at the least an advisory message on the launch screen. Like I said, it's the noobs on the PS4 I feel most sorry for, assuming it's happening on there because they won't have a clue what just happened to them.

Yes.

Most game companies would rush a fix on an issue like this. You know: late nights, working weekends, overtime, etc. Good to see that FDev is being apathetic as always. They're about as responsive as a teenager being told to clean their room.

This is the kind of stuff that should be hotfixed within 24h, simple as that. The fact that these kinds of things go on for weeks and sometimes months, routinely and without fail, is absurd.

For once you and I are in complete agreement. It's ridiculous.

When Star Trek Online gets bugs this severe, they usually get fixed within hours, no matter what time it happens to be. I don't think FDev does after-hours hotfixes, except right at the launch of a major patch. They should've stayed up and fixed this the day it was reported, but here we are weeks later and they've done squat. Their priorities are a joke.

They could've paid for more QA testers, programmers, etc., but instead they bought a new building. I mean, really? Really?

No, you haven't missed the bug, land at planet bases enough and it will probably get you too.

FD can and will refund the rebuy, data, and bounties, though. In a week.

Just as long as they fix this silliness for 2.4...
