North Amerian beaver should have a burrow

North Amerian beaver should have a burrow like the European animals recent because they are the same type of animal that likes to burrow for protection.

Beavers create an unusual type of burrow. Beaver lodges are constructed with tree branches and mud over banks or hills in creeks or ponds. ... Only after the lodge is built do beavers dig burrows beneath them. All their burrows have underwater entrances, making it difficult for other animals to invade.

I'm sure they'll add burrowing to more animals. REmember how they rolled out the deep diving? one existing animal and then new DLC that was appropriate. I'm expecting we'll get beaver, prairie dog and meerkat in burrows at the very least.

Me, however, I don't expect the meerkat and the prairie dog to have burrows since they already have the other digging system. I think they will focus on other animals first, such as the pangolin, foxes or wolves.

That's a good point. IF that ends up happening, it'll make me wonder why they went two separate burrowing designs, but hey we got actual burrows out of it for some animals at least.

The more the merrier I say! Honestly the new burrows are what I EXPECTED when they announced meerkats would have burrowing mechanics. In fact, I was a small bit disappointed with what we got, but only because the animal-made burrows get sucked up with the poop with keepers come cleaning. 😔 At present we can put pretend permanent holes to decorate our habitats, but it's not the same. Having a permanent, placeable version of the meerkat / PD holes we already have alongside the naturally-dug ones would be the best solution imo.

But I also hope all animals in the game eventually get a "burrow" of their own. I don’t know of any mammal in the game that doesn't prefer to give birth in a private den box.

I honestly just wish that they harmonised these mechanics so they're applied universally between diggers and burrowers

What's funny in looking back, so many of us thought that digging mechanic really well thought out and were excited they were able to do even that...flash forward 6 months and we're thinking "really, you could do these better now!"

I hope we will eventually get a second version of the burrow that comes with one sided glass for guest to see directly inside of it. Beavers would need a different burrow model, that can be placed on water. I hope more animals get the feature, like the canids and the bears, as well.

Yes I would like the beavers to be able to use burrows as well so I could integrate them into beaver dams. Meerkats and prairie dogs should be able to sleep in burrows as well, even if they have their own digging system.

Yes, beavers should have burrows. I expected them to build their own beaver lodge, as it was back in the days of Zoo Tycoon 2. At least they gave us the beaver dam enrichment.
I built my own "beaver lodge", see attached. They are able to enter the underwater area and also the resting are, but I'm afraid it does not count as a "save shelter". The "roof" is made out of conifers, dead branches and moss (looks a bit like the mud they usually build with). It's a work around, but still ;)

I think they might add the existing burrow feature for beavers, meerkats, prairie dogs, foxes, etc, as well as the base game pangolins and maybe wolves (although the wolves are larger, so seem a little less likely to me since they might possibly require a new mechanic or newly sized burrow?)

But because the beavers are dlc animals from a past dlc, I'm skeptical that they'll be adding a specifically underwater ability for them, unless we somehow also get an underwater burrow for some new animal too.

Updating older dlc animals with a newly existing feature seems like something that has happened (ie. adding the now existing burrows to these animals), but I can't think of an example where we've seen Frontier create a new feature for use by only an older dlc animal (which would be the case for an underwater burrow).

To be fair wolf burrows are actually incredibly small. They don't live in them full time, they're only used by mother wolves to give birth in, with the pups leaving the den themselves within their first 4-6 weeks of life, while they're still very small. Thus wolf dens don't tend to be much bigger than the wolf itself. The size we have is even a bit big for a realistic wolf burrow, so I don't think it'd need changing. That said, one burrow at its current size would have a MUCH different capacity for wolves and other canids than it currently has for aardvarks and badgers.

Still, just because we haven't seen it before doesn't mean it'll never happen. We'd never seen Animal Packs before last April and had no reason to believe we'd get one, but we did. We know Frontier cares about updating old animals, as we got plenty of deep-diving rollouts throughout 2021. I see no reason to believe they couldn't someday work out a burrow-esque feature for the beaver. After all, burrows were very likely in active development when NA came out, they just weren't finished. For all we know, beaver lodges are in the works as we speak. We can't hope to know what's going on in Frontier's programming department, especially not enough to say something is or isn't likely based on precedent. Stuff players haven't seen before / aren't expecting is what keeps games alive!

Though the burrows dug by meerkats etc. are just holes you can see on the surface. They don't count as hard shelter, and there's no way for guests to "see" the animals in those burrows.

It's been frustrating, actually, trying to shelter my meerkats. I can't build anything that provides them with enough shelter that isn't so large that it takes up way too much of their small habitat enclosure.

I usually do a double decker shelter for my smaller or more agile animals so they can sleep on bedding underneath and run around on top, which has the added bonus of providing extra traversable area.
