North American animal pack

If next pack is African one made in classical DLC model, there is a good chance that pack after that could be an NA one, also an animal one coming after classical DLC ( Ofc this doesn't have to be ).

If that were the case how would you go about that pack ?

Here's my take :

1. Moose - I think this one goes without saying. At this point it's more of a when rather than if

2. Cougar - Another safe choice I would say. With a real leopard would complete "big" cat roster

3. Californian Sea Lion - Must have in zoos. Would break cold northern feel to pack and enrich aquatic choices with new African Penguin

4. Wolverine - This is more of a personal wish, long awaited along Moose to arrive in game. Although sitting comfortably at 20th place in random_goat list I wouldn't call it unpopular

5. American Alligator - Yes we have Gharial and Dwarf Caiman but this one would finally give us that alternative crocodilian without some niche gimmicks ( not that there is anything wrong with them )

6. Coati Mundi - Tropical American animal and it's a raccoon. Again fairly common in Zoos ( atleast in Europe ).

7. Canadian Porcupine - This is 1/1 my personal choice based on nothing. Just love them. It would give us a porcupine and an arboreal one at that

8. Texas Horned Lizard ( E ) - Desert Lizard would go very well with already present Gila and Rattlesnake for themed reptile houses. Also it could fill that hole BTLizard made when he took Moloch from us in Australia pack

That's it from me, would love to see your ideas

My choices would be fairly different, if only because I strongly feel we need an "International Animal Pack" to handle things like Moose and Wolverine, which appear in many parts of the world and not just North America...

For sure. Still I see DLCs as means of bringing animals into the game not necessarily defining them. So if NA pack would bring in Moose, in game it would be generic Moose, range would show NA,EU and Northern Asia. Something like a Grey Wolf.

But again sure if not international then European pack could just as easily bring in those animals. International animal pack is a great idea I have to say. It would have most freedom in animal choices and would satisfy largest number of players

I like the diversity youve got in your pack with the coati! But personally for me my wish pack would look more like:

1. Moose or Elk - we need more ungulents from the northern hemisphere and both would be a great choice. I would be fine with it being the american elk, because the moose could still be added elsewhere and we just really need some more diversity in the ungulent population.

2.Californian Sea Lion (could be exchanged for either the aligator or the Cougar) - again, personal choice but i think of the mainstream picks for a carnivore they would realisticly choose atleast one of them, but personally i dont really see the appeal in the cougar, nor do i need a fourth crocodile, but both would still be welcomed inclusions, even though i would prefer more interesting ones.

3. (wild) Turkey - What do we need in the game? More birds, more small animals, more farm animals and more northern animals. The turkey checks all thouse boxex and would be a great and versetile addition to the game, even though i understand why it flys under most peoples radar.

4. Racoons (or any other small mamal like skunks, otters or the former mentioned porcupine) - We simply need more small mammals and america is home to some of the more iconic ones. It would be a shame if we would get a pack without one

5. Axolotl - its just kind of a nobrainer for a cute exhibit animal and would be a secound water exhibit, maybe with a more explicit cavestyle.

I personally would prefer it not to be an animal pack, but a normal one, but only time can tell

Not to mention the fact that it's far more likely to be an Animal Pack as oppose to a regular pack (as a North American pack would probably be) since there's no specific biomes, locations or structural designs for an International pack.

As for a North America pack--taking my International Animal pack suggestion into account--my ideal pack starts looking like an Aquatic Pack 2.0 actually...
  • American Alligator
  • North American River Otter
  • California Sea Lion
  • I dunno... Mexican Wolf, American Black Bear, Alligator Snapping Turtle, American Flamingo... honestly there's lots of good choices for a North America pack...

What about a native theme?
Or a frontier theme?
Both would be great

My 7+1 North America idea would be;

- American alligator.
- American beaver.
- Moose.
- Collared peccary.
- Nine-banded armadillo.
- North American cougar.
- Wolverine.
- Scarlet kingsnake.

I think it's a good range and explores most of North America's biomes as represented in the game (aquatic, temperate, taiga, and desert), as well as showcasing species which occur all across North America, from Mexico to Canada. I don't think we need another themed building set, either, so an animal pack makes sense.

I've very much looked forward to a North American pack, in fact, outside of the fact of one animal that will likely be in the African pack that makes it my most wanted, NA has been my biggest want over all. Oddly enough no NA animals are even in my top 5 wants as yet, so I say "overall" with good reason.

If it's a 4+1+ building pack what I'd like to see:

Moose and Mountain Lion (aka Cougar): I would say these two are the most likely to show up in the pack, but what do I know. I also thought the capybara was a lock for the SA pack, so it goes to show nothing is for sure - or I'm just an incredibly bad guesser. But yes, these two for sure.

Wolverine and California Sea Lion would be the other two I would personally pick, but other high potential animals are the American Alligator and American Beaver. This group of 6 animals would be the most likely suspects, to me, to choose for the 4 animals for that type of pack.

If it's an 8 pack, all 6 animals above, obviously, and either an American Black Bear or Arctic Fox would be my next pick, though I also would like to see the Coyote, Rocky Mountain Goat and Big Horn Sheep in some way, as well as a North American River Otter (though I'd prefer the Asian variety of a second otter). That's the main 12 non-avian and non-fully marine animals I'd be most interested in; almost all were in my top 30 in the meta list, and I think especially the first 8 mentioned would be fairly popular choices for quite a few players.

Exhibit animal all around for me would be the Alligator Snapping Turtle. While they're big enough for habitat sized animals, they don't move around that much, I think their fairly static nature would fit in well for an exhibit.

Is it? I always thought Frontier was more gold miners, fur trappers, lumberjacks, log cabins and Paul Bunyan and such...
They blend. Gold mining, fur trapping, and lumber were all big reasons for the push west to begin with, which created the "wild west". The gold rushes in the Rocky Mountains and California drew people in, and then the railroads followed the wagon trails. They're all part of one big "theme" I guess.

I agree with your suggestions but here’s my spin
1. Moose: highly requested animal. Reminds me of zoo tycoon as they are one of the first animals you can purchase.
2. Cougar/Puma: The only continent missing a cat.
3. Sandhill crane: currently no big bird for NA
4. Alligator: the final crocodilian and currently no NA habitat reptile.
5. California sea Lion: I’d prefer steller sea lions but highly requested and we should have more aquatic animals.
6. Peccary: could use another swine like animal, plus desert biome could use some love.
7. Coyote: I like canines
8. I’m tied between Hellbender Salamanders or axolotl as we currently do not have salamanders

honorable mentions: Musk ox, foxes and badgers. I think they would make a good Europe/NA fusion pack

I’d go with something like this:

  1. California sea lion - a no brainer, one of the few remaining genuinely glaring omissions in the current animal roster.
  2. Cougar - iconic apex predator, another no brainer
  3. Moose - I don’t really care for it but enough people do that I think it would be a misstep to exclude it, even in a personal fantasy pck
  4. American alligator - I really wish there were more viable options for habitat reptiles that aren’t just additional crocodilians, monitors, or tortoises, but despite that I think that this is a great opportunity for another reptile and it’s a zoo staple so whatever works. It also completes the 4 branches of crocodilians, for whatever that’s worth.
  5. Coatimundi - I’d also be perfectly happy with a raccoon, but the coati is a bit more exotic and actually is kept in a nearby zoo.
  6. North American river otter - I know this is a contentious choice, given how many people love the Asian small clawed otter (for good reason!). But I have a stronger attachment to these guys given their place in my state’s zoos, and I think they’re every bit as fun and charismatic as their Asian cousins.
  7. Collared peccary - another desert animal, another pig. Both areas that are relatively neglected currently. Solid choice, I think.
  8. Axolotl - Seems like a crowd pleasing obvious choice, for as much as Frontier seems to like dodging those for exhibit species for some reason.
The first 4 are set in stone for me, but I rearranged and swapped the last 3 around several times before settling on this setup. Others I’d love to see include the wolverine, North American beaver, nine-banded armadillo, alligator snapping turtle, and wild turkey.

On the note of this topic, I've actually changed my mind on some choices. My 7+1 pack would now be;

- North American cougar.
- Collared peccary.
- Nine-banded armadillo.
- American alligator.
- California sea lion.
- Wolverine.
- Moose.
- Scarlet kingsnake.

I actually don't know why the moose is considered so important as they don't seem to be that common in zoos and beyond being really big and neat they just seem to be riding that Zoo Tycoon nostalgia which, to me, shouldn't be relevant. I picked it anyway because I figured it was more popular than the white-tailed deer or bighorn sheep, which were my other two choices.

Anyway my goal is to mix in a good number of biomes here, so we've got, in order, temperate/taiga, desert, desert, temperate/tropical/aquatic, (I guess) taiga/temperate/aquatic, taiga/temperate, taiga/temperate, and desert for Mr Kingsnake.

1. Moose
2. Mountain lion
3. Californian sea lion
4. Bighorn sheep
5. Raccoon
6. Beaver
7. Wolverine
8. Texas lizard

Unlikely but super wanted:
Manatee
Bald Eagle

I decided to choose two representatives from three different regions for my personal wishlist - Virginia Opossum and American Alligator for the southeast, White-nosed Coati and Collared Peccary for the southwest and Mexico, and California Sea Lion and Roosevelt Elk for the Pacific coast. Additionally, the iconic Cougar is included as a transcontinental species and the Hellbender sits alone as an Appalachian representative.

I actually really like the hellbender as an exhibit choice for North America.

In my opinion, the moose is popular because it is kind of iconic from NA (and northern Europe) and it's an impressive animal quite different from any other animal in the game (even different enough from deer and reindeer). If you visit Canada, Sweden, Noray,. Finland, USA it is very easy to find lots of toys and souvenirs that use the moose as a symbol, making it sink in our minds. It is not very common in many zoos, but there are enough northern zoos that have them. I would say they are "somehow similar" to giant pandas in the sense that they are not that common in zoos, but they are very iconic animals.
