North American VS European "versions" of animals: Which of these do you prefer?

Someone pointed out how many North American and European animals are, in a way, different versions of each other. So I though it'd be fun to see which ones are favored by people on this forum. I think in the end, we'd all be happy with these animals being split between NA and Euro DLC packs. (So we'd get as many as possible, regardless of whether we always get our favorites.) But it'd still be fun to see what you guys would pick!

1. Kodiak bear VS Eurasian Brown Bear

(wouldn't want another brown bear in the game but I thought I'd add them anyway)

2. Mountain Goat VS Chamois

3. Dall or Big Horn sheep VS Alpine Ibex

I know Dall sheep are already in the game, but I figured it's worth pointing out how similar they are to big horns.

4. NA River Otter VS European River Otter

5. Roosevelt Elk VS Red Deer

They are all awesome animals! But just for fun:

1. Probably Kodiak because it is so large (but would also not want another species of brown bear in game).
2. Really like the mountain goat.
3. Alpine ibex - it is so majestic.
4. Oh wow that is a hard one. I think I like the European river otter a bit better
5. Being from Europe the red deer is the more familiar for me, beautiful animal.
6. I really like the Fallow deer fur pattern.
7. European badger. Because:

Forgot about Moose and Lynx

Gotcha! Lynx added. I think the moose is so similar either way, that few people would care which one we got. (Though I guess the otter is kinda the same way) But feel free to give your opinion if you do! And if anybody wants to add more, go right ahead

How about also.... Coyote VS Golden Jackal

Bald or Golden eagle

American VS European Pelican

Personally my picks are Kodiak bear, either Mountain goat or Chamois (tie), Alpine Ibex, NA otter, Roosevelt Elk, Fallow Deer, European Badger, Mute Swan, any lynx (tie), Golden Jackal, Bald Eagle, and Eurasian Pelican

It's difficult to choose, but here's my list:

1) Eurasian brown bear, because we already have one American bear and one Asian brown bear, but not any European bear despite them being present almost all over the continent (once again who decided about the Himalayan bear?)
2 and 3) I would skip both options in number 2 and get both options in number 3, so Bighorn sheep and Alpine ibex :)
4) This is the hardest choice. I would go for the European otter because it would also work for Asia, so it gives more options for players.
5) Red deer, I just like it better.
6) Fallow deer, they are cute and unique.
7) European badger, look at their good-boy face. They are easier to recognise I think. North America could get a raccoon and a skunk instead.

Extra extra (to balance my list, since I picked mainly the European options)

8) American moose
9) American beaver
10) Iberian lynx (undeniable 100% European haha)

Regarding the eagle, both species are different enough for me. It would be like choosing between African and Indian elephant. We need both.

I think I would more likely choose the Europeans for representation's sake, but let's see:

1. Neither, as others mentioned, we have enough brown bears in the game.
2. Chamois. Mountain Goat would be nice, but would be another white goat from America. Chamois are cute, kind of unique looking and pretty high on my European wish list in general.
3. Alpine Ibex. Kind of the same reasons as for the Chamois. Very iconic European animal imo.
4. Either is fine. To be honest, I don't see a big difference there. ^^
5. Both, please! :D Red Deer is probably my number 1 wish for Europe, they look so impressive, but I also want Roosevelt Elk, because I love the unique noise they make!
6. Fallow Deer. They have the iconic spotted fur and I also like their antlers more than those of the "competition" here.
7. I'd be ok with either, but would probably go for the European Badger for representation.
8. Mute Swan, because they were everywhere where I grew up. But not very passionate about this choice.
9. Iberian Lynx for representation and conservation!
10. Coyote so we have a potential North American desert candidate.
11. Bald Eagle, because Murica! :p (Seriously though, it is probably the more iconic one.)
12. Either pelican is fine. Not passionate about this one.

Of the animals listed so far:
  1. Kodiak vs Eurasian brown bear - Neither; I think we have enough brown bears already
  2. Mountain goat vs chamois - As mentioned, the mountain goat would be another white-coloured mountain caprid; therefore I choose the chamois
  3. Bighorn sheep vs Alpine ibex - Definitely the Alpine ibex
  4. American vs Eurasian river otter - Probably the Eurasian otter, although I would choose other otter species above either of them
  5. Elk vs red deer - Probably the elk (if it is referred to as wapiti and has its global range included) as they are also an Asiatic species
  6. White-tailed vs fallow or roe deer - The roe deer; I have mentioned elsewhere why I would prefer this to any other European deer
  7. American vs European badger - The European badger
  8. Trumpeter swan vs mute swan - The mute swan
  9. Canada vs Eurasian or Iberian lynx - The Iberian lynx
  10. Coyote vs golden jackal - The golden jackal
  11. Bald eagle vs golden eagle - Probably the bald eagle
  12. American white vs European pelicans - The European pelican, specifically the Dalmatian pelican

The other group of animals with species in both Europe and North America that could be good are the marmots - Europe has two species (the Alpine and bobak marmots) while North America has six different species (the groundhog and the Alaska, Olympic, yellow-bellied, hoary and Vancouver Island marmots). All are fairly sizeable animals, being at least the same size as the Chinese pangolin. Of these, on account of its bold brown-and-white colouration, its critically endangered status and its reliance on captive breeding in zoos for its future survival, I would choose the Vancouver Island marmot.

1. European brown bear (because we already have two bears native to NA)
2. Chamois (because the other one reminds me of a dall sheep)
3. Alpine ibex (we already have dall sheep for NA)
4. Either otter is fine
5. Red deer (classic icon of European woodlands)
6. Fallow deer (spotted deer and cute)
7. European badger (cuter)
8. Either swan is fine, though I'm leaning towards the mute swan as it's a classic.
9. Iberian lynx (critically endangered)

The coyote/golden jackal, eagles, and pelicans are all fine for me.

  1. Kodiak vs Eurasian brown bear - @avietar makes a solid point, there are already two bears native to NA and they do not have that much of a difference. But neither may be the real answer to this question.
  2. Mountain goat vs Chamois - The mountain goat would feel like a big Dall sheep, the Chamois is something different.
  3. Bighorn sheep vs Alpine ibex - Not a doubt, horns are way cooler and terrain work would be challenging.
  4. American vs Eurasian river otter - Tie, fine with both of them.
  5. Elk vs Red deer - a more iconic animal too me personally.
  6. White-tailed vs fallow or roe deer - a bit more preference for the roe deer i guess, but let's call it a tie.
  7. American vs European badger - I honestly can not imagine anyone choosing the American badger over the European, look at their faces (nice pic @FoxyDee)
  8. Trumpeter swan vs Mute swan - But would prefer other birds over swans.
  9. Canada vs Eurasian or Iberian lynx - Tie, just a lynx would be fine anyways.
  10. Coyote vs Golden jackal - Has a bit more colour variation to add into the game in my opinion.
  11. Bald eagle vs golden eagle - No doubt, the bald eagle
  12. American white vs European pelicans - That is the pelican that comes to mind when i think of pelicans.
