Northern White Rhino

Would it be wrong to say that the northern white rhinos are approved? :)
There is currently no animal in the "Extinct in wild" category in the game. Forgive me if I didn't notice.
It would be great to get white rhinos in a future DLC. it is a real struggle and I think it will be very important.

I think it wouldn't be very likely to get the Northern White Rhino because there are only 2 female Northern White Rhinos left. So I think if we will get this Subspecies, it would maybe be in something like a extinct Animals Pack🦏
But a whole DLC about Animals that are extinct in the Wild would be great (especially if there will be a Possibility to add the Spix Macaw😍)

For the Northern White rhinoceros, artificial insemination method was applied. :)
The sperm of the last male northern white rhinoceros who died was taken.
But just because there are only 2 female northern white rhinos on earth does not mean that they cannot be added to this game.:)
but I don't know how to handle this issue in the game. It would be absurd to add only the female northern white rhino to the game. :D

Even if they are too old, I bet they have taken their eggs from their ovarys and the Southern White Rhinos are just needed to bear the babies. But I don't think this will happen because of the costs.

Such a shame to see only 2 left in the whole world. I heard something on 1 of the zoo TV shows that they do have everything they need for inpregnatting (any) female. That might be what @Kaan mentioned. So sad

Sounds great if it is like that because this would be easier than needing to prepare the Ovaries of another Rhino for cloning 🙂

Aren't the last 2 Females too old?
I think I've read somewhere that it's needed to clone them with Southern White Rhinos as Surrogate Mothers because of the old Age
I can not say that I have researched a lot. but in an article I read interestingly that a female elephant would act as surrogate mother. 😕 (they probably thought this way was the solution at that time.)
I read this article 3-4 years ago. but, their current work is to apply artificial insemination to other rhino species.

I don't think the costs will be a problem. I think the zoos donated on this issue. I hope it succeeds.

tragic.
rhinos are one of my favorite land animals.
I heard it was a10 year project. So in a decade we may have some walking around.
absolutely. such projects are long term. because there is no room for mistakes.

I don't know how accurate it is but an article written in 2020.
translation as follows;

In a statement from the Kenya Wildlife Service, it was noted that sperms from the last male northern white rhino that died last year and three embryos were formed from the eggs of the two surviving females.

Tourism and Wildlife Minister Najib Balala stressed that development is a great victory, emphasizing that the extinction of the species is only a matter of time.

Thanks to the project contributed by scientists and environmentalists from Czech Republic, Germany, Kenya and Italy, the animal rhinos will be reproduced with the application to female rhinos in the coming months.

The last two northern white rhinos of the world, whose names are Najin and Fatu, live in Kenya. The project aims to increase the number of the species to five in the first place.

It's a really deep and sad subject...
Anyway, I really would love to see other rhino species in this game. 🦏
but I think the northern white rhinos will really fit this game, it's also an important issue.

I think species like scimitar-horned oryx and Père David's deer are maybe more obvious choices and both are widespread in zoos. I'm sure we'll get white rhinos but I'm not sure northern white rhinos are the best choice for a game like this.

I did not know about these species. only white rhinos came to my mind. :)
I would love to see these animal species you said in the game. I also think that the Nubian lions(Barbary) will be beautiful in this game. :)
I think saying "the best choice" is wrong. but the northern white rhinoceros can be a good choice to raise awareness and inform people.

I like northern white rhinos but they are technically extinct already. For this reason I would much rather have the southern white rhino. I know there’s been talk of resurrecting the northern subspecies through the southern but nothing actually came of it as far as I know.

Are you sure that it wasn't a Article about cloning Mammoths? It sounds really weird to me to consider a Elephant as a Surrogate Mother for a Rhinoceros instead of immediately using a Rhinoceros.

San Diego zoo is working on surrogate births with other rhinos and frozen sperm and eggs. They succeeded in a surrogate birth of southern white rhino, which was first step before attempts to use northern rhino frozen sperm since they only have one shot at it.

Thinking more about this, it feels almost in bad taste to raise awareness for a functionally extinct species by breeding tonnes of them in a computer game. That won’t save them and it just doesn’t feel right for me.

This is also what I'm thinking. I'd expect more common EW animals first. The two African rhinos I would go with is the Eastern Black and Southern White.

after all, getting them in the game will not save them from extinction, I agree. But even when people know that it's a game when necessary, they can take some and even ridiculous issues in vain very seriously. 🤷‍♂️ so I think there is an inconsistency in this regard.
but as @DrBurrito says, I would love to see other rhino species. :)

Actually, if I ever make a conservation themed game, the last scene of the game's intro would feature that iconic image (the one that gained a lot of media attention) of the last male northern white rhino with dramatic music in the background, with the image slowly fading into black and white.

However in a game that has players mass reproduce endangered species, I would rather (first) have species/subspecies that are more plausible to save from extinction by basic breeding programs we commonly see in zoos, or in other words species/subspecies that don't depend on special methods to bring them back from the brink of extinction. Unless they add a special career mode scenario that specifically focuses on such a case mentioning/featuring the methods used to increase player awareness.
