In 2019, Frontier and the Elite Dangerous community rallied round my desperately ill 15-year-old nephew in his last days. I, and Michael's Mum, Dad, and brother, will forever be grateful for that.
Michael's Elite experience, and the incredible acts of kindness from the Elite Dangerous family, have now been immortalised in a documentary which I'm proud to include in Michael's legacy.
The 97-minute film is thought-provoking deep dive into the lives of a number of gamers, or which Michael is one, and it forensically examines and discusses their experiences and the benefits and pitfalls of videogames.
I think Michael's relationship with video games, and especially Elite: Dangerous, was a powerful example of how the communities and the experiences centred around gaming can be a force for good. I'm keen for the world to see it and understand the value and power of gaming communities. Please spread the word.
You can watch it on Netflix in the UK, with other territories to be confirmed.
