Not being able to buy ED as a christmas gift is rather annoying .

I'm trying to figure out a way to actually gift this game without tipping the recipient off .

Buying a CD key would make things so much easier ..

Yours.. Santa in vain ..

Linkard ..

FDEV had gift cards (vouchers) available at one point, but they seem to have been removed from the store (unless I'm missing something).

Maybe try emailing them about it.

Really? Wasn't the whole rushed release thing so they could cash in on Christmas presents? There must be a way surely?

The release wasn't rushed. It's the opposite: as you may have noticed, it's been an amazingly smooth ride since 1.0.. Servers are stable and people are playing.

The un-rushed release indicates that Frontier has been implementing a very considerate, and mostly well planned and well executed plan (I use "mostly" here because of the off-line play episode).
All of it is good news for us, the players, as it suggests that this new incarnation of Elite is in very capable hands.

Elite: Dangerous 1.0 is the base from which the game will evolve, the first step in a long growth process (if the game finds its audience, of course).

"Rushed" or not, I think it was more a case of getting the release out before the end of 2014, so that it would still make it '30 years after the original'. I actually like that concept, but I admit I may be wrong about FDEV's motivations...

I have no issues with the game :) ..

I'm trying to buy this game for my 62 year old dad, he really can not be bothered with EMail accounts and stuff like that :)

He will have to log into it anyway with an email and password, so do like one of the guys suggested.

Set up a new email and create an ED account with it and buy the game on it.

Then download it to his PC and set up the login to save login and password, so all he has to do is click the Log In button and then launch the game.
