Elite / Frontier Not Elite-related...

...but I've just read a post where someone mentioned getting goose-bumps at some music from Elite, and though it doesn't effect him in the same way, it's still bringing back memories for him.

I've got a similar request, but it's the music from a film. Was a long time ago...we're talking 20 years+...and I think it was about giant spiders. I don't think it was the black and white film The Giant Spider Invasion. Anyway, it had cool music at the end, with green credits text scrolling up a black background. Does anyone know what it was?

Oh, and Frontier is really cool. (Thought I'd mention the game, as this is an Elite/FE2/FFE forum!) :eek:

It is still borderline. On second thought, it has crossed the border and is now at the other end of the universe.

I'll leave the thread open and hope someone can help you, but I do want to remind everyone to try and keep the discussion in this forum to things that are Elite/Frontier-related. The games obviously are, as is space etc but I am looking forward to a really good explanation regarding giant spiders.

LOL nothing like a bit of pressure - Here is a tenuous link - The movie I mentioned (Kingdom of the Spiders) has William Shatner in it of Star Trek fame of which there have been numerous space games made :D

....Ok weak at best :D

And does'nt one of the Imperial ships in FFE look a bit like a certain ship Mr Shatner once piloted?:D

Ah but JTK never piloted the afore mentioned ship did he - that was Sulu!

It occurs to me that there is another tenuous link - were the Thargoids not insects?

Isn't spider shape suitable for all kinds of maintenance/repair bots that can be used on various spaceships? :p

Thanks guys, and apologies for not being on-topic, but I didn't know where else to post it, and that other thread made me think of it is all. Draq's right, we need a general discussion thread.

It's not Kingdom of the Spider, and while I thought it wasn't Giant Spider Invasion, it might've been...it was Earth Vs The Spider that I knew it wasn't.

In these films the Spiders did mostly come from Space... :eek:


EDIT: Nope, not Giant Spider Invasion. I guess I need to go back and watch all the films and TV Programmes I saw as a child until I find it. (Sigh) Thread can be deleted.

I too like the idea of a little more generalised discussion as I find you guys to be reasonably like minded however I do understand the reasoning behind Frontier making this resource available and I think that to a certain extent keeping the forum on subject has restrained some rambling (well kinda :D )

I agree, I believe the forum is/maybe starting to grow into a bit of a community of like minded people and if we can keep it within the bounds of what the guys at Frontier Developments require, I can't see too much harm in it. (fatal last words?):rolleyes:

And it was quite funny going totally off topic and trying to keep weak and tenious links to Elite and justify our posts...eh Steve?:D

Agreed...we have waited a long time and as you said somewhere before Steve there are only so many variations of "when will Elite 4 be out, what features do we want".
However, if Frontier wants us to stay on-topic then giving us the odd Elite 4 snippet would keep our minds off spiders:D I promise we wouldn't breathe a word to anyone.....;)
Still it's nice to have active involvement from Smars and others from Frontier on the forum, even though I know you can't/won't say anything yet. Still, what about updating the Wikipedia entry saying it's vapourware???

Personally I don't care much for that statement, it is an opinion and therefor should not feature in an encyclopaedia. Though that is Wikipedia for you - if you want the good parts you have to accept the bad portions as well.

So the thought of editing it has occured to me, but it would seem like a rude thing to do given that I work for the company. The second problem is of course that it might be seen as a kind of announcement.

All good things come to those who wait, and we shall eventually prove them wrong.

Aye it has it's strong points when it comes to the factual that has been backed up by decent research but separating the opinions from the fact can become a little blurry. To be fair if you are looking at an online encyclopedia for the 'latest' on a computer game your interest can't be that peaked in the first place.

Yes I can understand why Frontier won't/can't give us ANY info on Elite 4 at the moment, and I understand why they haven't updated info on 1. their own FAQ, 2. Wikipedia

But here's my suggestion:
Put a sticky up called Elite 4 Announcements
Put in a first post along the lines of "Any announcements regarding Elite 4 will be made here by Frontier Developments"
Then when they are ready to finally announce something maybe they would acknowledge our patience and loyalty by giving us the privillage of a day - a week advance notice on the rest of the world.

It was just a suggestion !

I take comfort in the knowledge that they know they have a core loyal fanbase who WILL buy the game when it is released, (and I do believe it WILL be released) and that it will be THE biggest game to come along since FE2/FFE. There will be millions more who although not hardcore fans, will also buy the game.

I go to sleep each of your lunar cycles (I am an alien remember!) hoping to benefit from years of patience and loyalty and love for the games.

I can but dream.

I think you mean "piqued"? ;)

Still haven't found that film by the way, but if I ever do I'll extract the music and suggest it's used somewhere within Elite 4, as a little tribute! ;)

The sticky would be a very good idea, we don't get as many "when is E4 coming out????! posts any more! but it would give any people looking for that information a single topic to look at.

And if FD would like to give us a sneak preview or information on whats happening before the info goes on generay release, I promise I wont tell anyone *pleading look on face* :D

LOL you know what just occured to me - remember in the original Frontier games how there were space stations like Asimovs and Ridley Scott and the like - I would be exceedingly chuffed if we could get a minor space station named after me :D O B Have (or maybe ten Have - my actual last name) station - maybe a small dirty space casino - haha

And yes I did mean Piqued - thank you for pointing out my glaring literacy failing :D
