Not enough power. Need help.

Hello,
I have run into some problems with power distribution. I am flying a cobra set up for mining (1 mining laser, abrasion, missiles, and seismic charges). I changed out my second mining laser for the seismic charges because I wanted to blow up some asteroids. But when I did that, I ran into some problems with power distribution when I opened up my weapons for mining. To get around this I shut off my FSD when I started mining and turned it back on when it was time to go. Been doing it like that for about 1 week. But today after doing some mining I shut my weapons and turned my FSD back on and I don't have enough power. Using 102% for some reason. I haven't changed anything or added or engineered anything. Sadly, I never looked at my power draw before this happened. Does anyone have any ideas? Do I need to provide more info? Thanks for any help. I am pretty new at this game.

I shut off my shields to get back to a station, but the refinery seems a better option thanks. Just not sure what I did to start this problem. I wonder if there was something that shut off automatically when I closed my mining weapons.

Punch your ship into this:

It will show you out of game what is using how much power compared to how much power you're generating. It will also show you what will shutdown according to your module power priority settings. You can also use it to see how to work out the best setup or what to change to solve your power issues.

Your set up will automatically shut off stuff based on power availability if you drop below what is needed. You can look on your left panel under modules tab and see what % of your power each module is using. You can base what you shut off based on that

whilst the cobra is a great ship I would rec the python for mining you just need a bit more space than the trusty cobra can provide imo

Even better - since this is the PC subforum, install e.g. EDDiscovery (that's what I use - other tools can do the same) and let it do the punching for you (i.e. EDD has a button you press that that transfers your actual loadout with all the actual engineering values to Coriolis or EDSY).

Using 102% for some reason.

The ship has two power profiles, deployed and retracted. When you retract weapons they pull no power. As soon as you deploy hardpoints those come on line and there goes your overhead.

Minor excess such as 102% can usually be taken care of with Module Priorities. It's in the right hand panel and allows you to set essentially a shut down order. You can set which modules will shut down first as the power limit is reached. So the idea is to assign priority to those things you don't need when mining, like the FSD for example. This reduces the power requirement when hardpoints are deployed (but the FSD now needs time to reboot, so be aware of this potential hazard) and allows you to build ships that are well over the limit theoretically. 102% is nothing at all and can easily be handled through module priorities. If you were already aware of this disregard.

the python is on my list tentatively. Right now I'm just trying things out to see what I like doing and the cobra is pretty cool as it can do most things well for a beginner. Not sure if i like exploring mining or just running goods around. So many cool things to do. Yesterday was my first time blowing up an asteroid and it was pretty cool. I may set up my Diamondback explorer just to do that.
Also thanks everyone for the info. Going back into my notebook to compare things I realized that I accidentally changed the priority of some things and everything runs great now.

It needs to be THE ship on your list. As a fellow new player, I can tell you: GET THE PYTHON.

I've had: The Cobra Mk II, Type 7, Type 9, Keelback, Krait Mk II, Imperial Cutter, Asp Explorer, Orca and Python.

Of those, I only have the Cobra, Krait, Asp, Cutter and Python left in the hangar. I find myself most of the time in the Python. It does pretty much everything better than any other ship in my limited experience.

I've got the Cutter outfitted for mining and it does it better than anything with ease. I still use the Asp if I have to make a long trip for a mission. (It's 45 LY jump range is the best I've got for now.)

I haven't flown the Cobra in weeks. I keep it more for nostalgia than anything else.

The Krait I've got built for pure combat and it does it quite well.

But as I said before, I'm in the Python and will be for the foreseeable future grinding the Federation ranks for the Corvette. I take a look at the transport and passenger missions and see which is best. Equip the Python accordingly, take 5 or 6 missions at a go and head out.

Whenever I get back I might find the passenger missions are looking good so I switch the cargo modules over to passenger cabins and head out.

Rinse, repeat.

It is a really good mining ship as well. You can take it out and rake in 200 tons of platinum in about an hour and 15 minutes.

The Python is the Swiss Army Knife of this game. If it's not the next ship you buy, you are making a grave mistake in my humble opinion.

Please post a link to your ship load out in Coriolis, as metatheurgist suggests.
This is will enable us to understand the cause, and fix the problem.
