Not enough rides and how to fix it.

I bought this game no long after it was released but in all that time I've not played it so mutch.
The reason being that I found the game not so playable becuase there is a very small variety of rides, especially themed rides.

I know it's not the same game can't help but compare this game to it's spiritual ansestor, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.
This game had many themed rides for each theme. Also there were many rides with customizable cars, you could build a coaster and, at any time, pick from the themed cars on it's menu, thus going a long way to theame the ride. I could fill out a decent-sized Wild west area with rides that had been made to look like they belonged there. I could do the same wich Sci-fi, Horror, Pirates, another one with generic rides and still not have built the same ride twice.

But tht is not the case with Planet Coaster. I was amazed by how little choice there was in rides! Particularly rides created with a theme in mind. I played the pirate themed levels dispite there were only 2 even remotely pirate themed rides. Wild west has 3 if you cound the train rides, Fantasy has only 1 with clear theming!
How am I supposed to build evan a small area, let alone a whole park with sutch limited resources?

It's so bad that when I play levels like the one with the big fantasy tree, I just got stumped.

And yes I know the game has a great engine for making custom scenery and you can even build it in and around rides. The idea being that you can use it to theme the ride to whatever theme you want. But that only goes so far.
Example: I gave the fantasy tree level another go. This time I was determined to try and customise all the rides I was working with to have a fancy theme using the scenery engine. I started with the kick flip, thought I could make it look like a windmill or a giant sword. But it was simply impossible, because of the way it was designed none of the scenery items could be put inside the ride's boundaries, not even slightly. So I tried building around it instead and actually built rather nice looking castle, but when I looked back I saw it was just a kick flip in a courtyard.

The rollercoaster's and tractor rides are just as bad, each one comes with only one car type.

And the same can be said for every other theme, the only type of part I can comfortably build is a generic un-themed one.

But I'm not writing just complain, here are a few ideas I have to improve it.

1, more rides in expansion packs or updates.
Create properly themed rides and either put them in DLC or in updates.

2, update the software so the scenery can more easily be put into ride areas.
As I said, I couldn't put scenery anywhere inside the kick flip's railings, even the part where no moving pieces could possibly intersect with anything.

3, Create themed versions of existing rights and coasters.
Think of this, I build a kick flip, I open its menu which contains a variety of properly themed skins so I could theme it at any time just like the coasters in RCT3.

4, modify the scenery program so I can stick things directly onto the moving ride parts.
That way I could cover the rides and lots of themed items, like in Thrillville: off the rails. Yes it's messy and cheap looking but at least it's something.

5, create a simple to use 3D modelling program and let us do the work.
I saw recently that you had Given the game an update allowing 3D modellers to convert their creations into acceptable files for the game. Maybe, for those of us who aren't experienced computer graphic artists or who don't have that kind of software, you create a simple version and incorporated into the game. That way we can create new skins and meshes for the rides ourselves and take it a step further to truly make it whatever we wanted.
It worked for Second Life.

If you are a visitor to this forum please let me know what you think and add any ideas you may have to resolve this problem.

1, more rides in expansion packs or updates.
Create properly themed rides and either put them in DLC or in updates.
We will probably see more rides in the future. But most people appear to be wanting clean, unthemed rides so they can theme themselves.

2, update the software so the scenery can more easily be put into ride areas.

There are options inside the game's menu where you can disable collisions. That way you can place scenery inside the ride's railings.

3, Create themed versions of existing rights and coasters.

See point 1.

I expect you mean that you want the scenery to move with the rid when it's active I doubt this is technically possible within the current game engine.
If it is possible. I won't mind seeing it happen.

This must be your lucky day. Frontier released the Thememaker Toolkit yesterday that enables you to create your own wonderful scenery objects and import them into the game.

Some things have been implemented in the time you haven't played. Others I doubt it's technically possible with the game.

Are you sure you played the most recent version of the game? As you can already swap trains for some months now.
And the number of flatrides is almost the same as RCT3 (which also contained some duplicates (due to themed versions of the same ride)

Isn't that for people who are good at making things with 3D software? I don't know how to do that and I'm not willing to buy the software.

Blender is FREE and people with 0 3D modelling experience are teaching themselves using the guides and a bit of assistance. Yes it takes some time to master but this is fairly complex stuff and that's why it takes Frontier a fair amount of time creating new rides/assets (far longer than RCT 3). A 'simple version' just isn't feasible. With the TT release they may spend more of their resources going forward on rides/gameplay improvements instead of scenery based DLCs as we've got up to now. There was a live stream today (which I'm about to watch) that shows the devs using the toolkit:

you’re not willing to play the game because u think there should be a certain number of rides? well....thats your loss. Why would you NOT use the ones given. AND there ARE rides in the updates. The vintage pack alone has 5 flat rides....but....whatever.

When you say that you’re not able to put stuff on rides, what exactly do you mean? Have you got collision turned off??

I think he has not.

I also think his suggestions are based upon gameplay 1-2 years ago as some of them are there already.

Ok i've found out I could move the scenery into the rides now.
So about the moccling programme, hypotheticly if I wanted to take a ride and re-design the cars, could I do it?
Or does the new toolkit just cover scenery items like walls and props?

No. It does only cover scenery items.

But you can swap trains/cars between coasters (through customization).

A lot of people in the community protested against too many themed rides because they wanted to theme them themselves, which is why the development went in this direction. I personally feel a few more would be nice, however the workshop has quite a selection and with turning collision off in the options, there is a lot you can do with the scenary tools.

With all due respect my problem is this.

With the scenery you can indeed decorate the right to some extent but because you can't decorated actual moving parts it still leaves a lot to be desired in terms of theme.

Take the Centrum, yes you can theme the base using the scenery but as for the part the guests ride in, you can't touch it. So no matter what you do it'll just like a generic Centrum with a themed base. Rollercoaster tycoon three had a Centrum, it also had a wild west version where the big round car was designed to look like a giant lasso.

You see it in real life too, generic rides decorated in certain ways to fit a theme. Take the Kobra at Chessington world of adventures.

I just think it would be nice if the rights could be themed like that. Better yet, if they had a feature where you could switch between them.

I feel like it would be cool if they gave us options on ride vehicles, not using ride vehicles from other rides. Like for the cat track ride if they added two different looking ride vehicles it could open up alot of different possibilities for the ride.

I totally agree. My local park (Adventure Island in Southend-on-sea), the majority of their flat rides are heavily themed. Egyptian themed Sizzler/Twister, Scorpion themed Troika, Viking boats for children. There is a dragon flat ride, jungle animals, Skateboarding mini Disk'o tyoe ride etc... Which are themed in the moving parts. I do realise they give people less flexibility, however I do like the inspiration of a themed ride to work with.

So, just how difficult to use is Blender? Would I have to learn advanced mathematics to calculate vectors or whatever 3D models need? Would I need to learn how to be a graphic artist so I could fill in textures? Would I be struggling with complicated nets to cover the surface and crafting very small details?
