Not even auto dock can do it.

I understand the point of the mail slot is to be small and difficult to get through but there is a difference between difficult and impossible. I'm in a cutter with a ship kit so I'm a little taller in the back, I can't personally make it through, I somehow always catch that tail on the upper side. So I got the ADC and not even that can make it through, 80% of the time going in or out it hits the side and as I'm running a core mining cutter with no shields for extra space, that f***ing hurts, usually does about 5-10% hull damage if it has to squeeze by another ship it sometimes hits harder. I shouldn't be punished for using cosmetics that I spent real life money on, its a flagrant middle finger to my face.

I'm not saying to make it massive but I'm fairly certain the size of the hole wasn't designed for the new ships and cosmetics, so I think it's time to start thinking about making a slight increase to the size of the hole.

I often catch the cutter on entrance/exit without any extras.
Cutter autodock is very unreliable. Of all the ship I played, I never had as many issue as with the cutter. Without me watching, I would have been sent to the rebuy screen more than once.
Issue I have with it :
-slam so hard on the landing pad it bounces (regularly)
-get stuck in the mailslot when exiting
-slam against the station hull (hard)
-slam against the rotating taurus of some station
-try to make a hole below the mailslot for exiting (????)
-slam some random ship (that one is kinda funny, happen way less often than with the t9 sadly)

Also, this is why you always have a shield, even a crap one

So you can core mine in a shieldless cutter but you can not dock it manually? Did you know the beluga is much harder to dock? Especially if you forget the landing gear?

You should join Operation Ida for some station repairs. You will get the hang of it really soon.. We boost in and out of the mail slot all day in shieldless cutters :)
Explosions (for some) guaranteed and mostly cause by other OP Ida members.

Ship kits have no collision box. They do not effect the ship's collision/hit box. You can even shoot through them with your own weapons.

The ADC is rather unreliable for Cutter and T9/10. Especially with live commanders about that can easily confuse it. I always find a better use for the optional slot, so I just don't use that module. It takes only a few dozen landings to be better than ADC could ever be anyway.

Its a lot easier to avoid giant rocks than it is to fit into a slot that only gives about 10% of my ships height in clearance. I can zoom dock with any other (smaller or equal size) ship easily but the cutter gives me an aneurysm, It doesn't matter how far down I think my tail is, it gets caught or scrapes every time.

Really wish I had a screen shot because I very clearly was looking at the cosmetic tail sticking up, stuck on the slot so that I had to reverse out to get free.

I have the same problem but I like to use Autodocking because my ED runs in background while I do other things too. Autodocking + Supercruise mode lets me focus on something else and I do have part of ED screen visible just to take over control when something bad happens... and with cutter autodocking it happens often enough for me to supervise it when mailslot is nearby- this is also reason why I have shields, even weakest one possible, installed on all ships.

With my playstyle I would appreciate combination of supercruise and autodocking, for example using "dock" option when selecting something with proper landing pad for my ship. I also know that thing is called autopilot and it looks like it is commonly banned device in ED universe:)

P.S. I can land ship manually but that requires my attention... which I would prefer to focus on something else.

I will say I am a returning player, only been back for about a week, so I am a little rusty but I do remember having this issue before as well.
I knew asking for even a tiny increase in mail slot size was a long shot but can I not at least expect auto dock to work as intended? Maybe devs should work on making ADC better as it seems to be useless in larger vessels.... ya'know the ones you'd actually want it on....

There is one thing. If you want the autodock to work as best as it can then do NOT boost towards the station. Cutter laterals are to weak. Just drop from sc. Get within 7.5 km. Request docking and set thrust to 0%

Learned that lesson a few times. I usually request, boost, then slow to a stop about 1-2k from entrance at as close to a perfect angle as I can get, let ADC take over and it still hits nearly everytime.

I can dock my Beluga all day long without a scratch, but I can't for the life of me not bash up my Anaconda.
Maybe it's because of the top mounted bridge?

I have exploration ships that have no shield, but on any mining ship it does come in handy. Any large ship is a challenge to fly through the mail slot without scratching the paint. Are you telling me that your Cutter doesn't have room for a shield generator? That's the whole point of equipping your ship to serve your needs. It seems a little greedy not to want to use a size 6 slot for a tiny shield, that will spare you a lot of trouble/grief, unless you feel secure enough to boost safely out of the station.

Also, losing 5-10% hull means that you have plenty left, even taking into account that you'll need some left when entering the station again, or landing on the pad. Flying without shields is great for jump range, but apart from that?

Finally, did you engineer your hull? That helps :)

anaconda indeed feel different when docking. Orientate on the top of the mailslot. Get as close to the top. It just has a fat belly

You didnt skimp on thrusters?

Any way the hauling offer still stands
I play solo or private with friends, after EVE not really looking to be fighting everyone in the galaxy. My ship is fully kitted, 500mil+ total cost

Yes for mining I prefer extra cargo space for mining over a shield that, theoretically, I shouldn't need for that activity, especially since I don't play online, I'd have to be pretty dumb or afk to get caught by NPC's and I'm pretty good at AF flying. The only area I ever really take damage is through the mail slot, whether I'm piloting or ADC is. Call it greedy I guess, I prefer to maximize the value of my time, more cargo means longer mining runs, means more money. But maybe I'll switch back to a shield for a bit so I can practice, I just feel like I shouldn't be forced to buy a shield solely for the purpose of docking when the ADC exists, it SHOULD be able to dock any ship without damaging it, that's the whole damn point of it.

Yeah, it's still obnoxious that ADC is incapable of doing it's job and when I'm still not rolling in creds(enough for a couple insurance claims but not much more) hitting my 500mil ship with 100mil+ of cargo is heart stopping lmao

Haven't got to engineers yet. I haven't been in the hundred million club long, I think my lifetime creds is only around 1 billion. TBH I don't even know how to engineer.

It is not that bad.. Really.. And there is offcourse a PG

Bottom line is you are not aligning your ship correctly. It is not too big.
