Not exactly fair play

Well it's a new one on me. Was just leaving the station in Epsilon Eridani when the station opened fire on another ship. I got caught in the crossfire and blown to bits. Little bit miffed to say the least. Doubt that should happen really.

Well, this is how it works - if they are firing, you can get caught in the line of fire.
If you see that something is going down at the station entrance - back off quickly. No easy mode here :)

To quote one of the less well thought-out lines from a different space game, "Avoid the beam and you won't get hit, pilot". It sucks that it happened, but it's usually pretty obvious when the station starts firing at something, and then it's time to get out of the way fast. Or at least to sneak by very carefully once you know where the target is.

Basically, if you notice the station is shooting at something, don't try to approach the slot until you know what it is shooting at, where the target is, and whether it is safe to try going through the slot. If it isn't... just wait it out. The station will kill anything it targets in far less time than the 5 minutes you have to leave the station, and then you can just push your way past any debris the might be clogging the entrance.

It means that station was using REAL GUNS! There are no humans on stations. Robots are everywhere and their AI sucks. If you get between their guns and their target - its your own fault.

The more i read the forum the more i fear its lacks common sense...
For me the common sense is to never go through "leave the station" sequence. Save/Exit and then Start does the same thing but faster and so far the major danger for me was actually inside the station. It is rough out there in Elite Dangerous. I think the majority of deaths I incurred was actually inside the station because I either touch the boost key or the trespass thing somehow gets triggered.

*facepalm*

Your common sense doesn't tell you to not "accidentally touch" the boost and to avoid trespassing, but tells you to restart the game every time you leave the station?

I would say no, but look on the bright side, the station should now have a 9k bounty for killing you

If you don't play the game, you'll never get blow up. Shirley that would be safer for you. Maybe you could play candy crush instead.

Nope, that's the way I play. And whatever makes you sad I obviously don't care - Save & Exit / Start make me jump-ready in about 10 seconds compared to about a minute it takes to leave the station, so why bother? I know it is a docking simulator, but...

This very nearly happened to me - I was approaching the slot on my way out when I suddenly see gunfire start up outside the slot. I hit the vertical thrusters so hard I knocked a ring of shields off my asp bouncing off one of the big braces that angle down from the face of the station, because I knew the inside guns would join in. Sure enough, they did and I was out of the cone of fire. The NPC type 6 schlepping along behind me wasn't so lucky - he got popped as well as the cobra the station was actually shooting at. Epic quantities of debris in the slot from that one.

I get why you have chosen the way to play, but you are missing the fun. I have had that problem myself and I feel ED could have an easy fix, its called the Docking/Undocking computer. They could sell it for 100k and people would have loads of fun trying to get it. Talk about being a pain in the butt. just as your leaving the station somebody else comes in.

I also have an answer to the problem of smashing into everything. If you use a mouse to control your ship, clicking the 3rd button frees the mouse to wanter without effecting the ship. then just use thrusters (R) so ur in the middle of the slit(docking station opening) then press (W) to move forward slowly. Saves me blowing up in my T6 lol only 500k from Asp lol
